This was my first visit to this established restaurant near downtown. The decor is very attractive (chandeliers, paintings) and there are several dining rooms. I had the chicken fried steak which was tasty. The meal comes with two vegetables, tea or coffee, and rice pudding. The food arrived quickly on this Saturday, less than 10 minutes after ordering. Pies with sky-high meringue are displayed for sale near the counter at the front where you pay before leaving.

Man! Everything was delicious. I got the velvet plate and a side of Delta raised catfish. If you’ve never had catfish from the Delta, you are missing out. And the Crystal Grill does it right. Their house made garlic oil dressing for the salad was drinkable. Go do some exploring around Greenwood, let your food digest then come back for their mile high pie.

This was the next best thing to grandma’s southern cooking. I had the grilled red fish with green beans and yams. Everything was seasoned and flavorful. I was disappointed that they ran out of cornbread (it was only a little after 1p). The best part was dessert! The banana pudding was made from scratch just like my grandma used to make and it was delicious!! The servers were polite, attentive and helpful.

Party of 13- I ordered spaghetti and meatballs which were literally served cold and had to send back. The noodles were old and the sauce appeared to be poured out of a jar. No Parmesan cheese was available . This was after I picked out several pieces of rotten lettuce from salad which was very visible . My husband ordered ribeye that he described as tough with no taste. He did say the baked potato was great. No one was ever served bread although waitress kept saying she would bring some. I used to go there decades ago and was excited to be going but to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The waitress was , however, very personable which is the only other positive thing I can say. Only 1 person of our table of 13 ate all their food. First time In probably 20 years I have had such an experience while dining out. This is the only negative review I have ever written but it truly was that bad.

Serving size small for the price. Broil flounder was salty. Chicken strips fried hard. Prefer cornbread with vegetables but they were out, soft rolls served instead. Deserts were good.
