The Hop Yard Alehouse & Grill in Pleasanton, California, is located on what was once the largest hop farm in the world. From the 1880’s to the beginning of World War I, the Pleasanton Hop Company operated on 1900 acres of swampy marshland along what is now Hopyard Road. Pleasanton hops were world renowned.
The Pleasanton Hop Company was an economic powerhouse that brought people together from near and far to work hard and play hard as well. We have tried to recapture some of our local heritage here at The Hop Yard.
We have created a simple place, reminiscent of simpler times, for friends to gather and enjoy themselves. So please, indulge in our fine fare and sample some of this region’s most unique and interesting brews on tap.

This is a dog friendly bar with great outdoor seating and a solid tap menu. My friends and I stopped by with my dog and sat outside near one of their TVs to watch the game. They brought a water bowl for my dog, which was kind.

Was driving through. Came in because the menu looked pretty good and we wanted to eat outdoors. All I can say is that the service was some of the most awkward service we have ever had. Waited a long time to order, only to have to wait behind people who just sat down. Server placed our order on the same ticket as the people sitting next to us so it was confusing for the people delivering the food. Most of the food was good. I prefer to get my food in order: drinks, apps, then entrees. They brought out the apps and entrees all at once. Then we had to wait for our drinks. It was just annoying. The ahi salad was recommended to me. It was terrible. Most of the dressing had already spilled on the salad and maybe it was sitting a while before it came out? It was so soggy and SO SO SO salty! The “wasabi vinaigrette” tasted like soy sauce. It was not edible. I ate the ahi so it would not go to waste but it wasn’t very good. The frickles and chicken wings were pretty good. I dunno the waiter really seemed really lost. Perhaps he had too many tables. When we left he was asking the people next to us if there was anything else he could do for them? And they were, “we are just waiting for our food.” It was very awkward and weird.

Meh food, noisy pub ambiance. Decent tap selection, and decent service makes it a fine place for neighborhood meetups. But otherwise, nothing special.

We came for the beer, since they had one that I wanted to try. We’d never visited the Hop Yard before, despite it having been walking distance away from where we were living for several years.

We had a pleasant experience when we can for a late lunch. We arrived when the shift change, our first server was a lot more attentive than our second server. It was an overall pleasant time. Food was good, yet it was more at a common level from an upscale bar than what I expected. I would give them another chance when I am back in the area.

Has the looks of a traditional pub, family friendly. Was seated quickly, staff was prompt and food came out fast. Food was great, we had the blackened chicken sandwich and Cobb salad with popcorn chicken. Surprisingly the sandwich wasn’t on a large bun, just toasted white bread. Pleasantly surprised how good it was.
