Started off awesome with no wait for a party of six on a Sunday around 6:30. The waitress immediately got us water and asked if she could grab us anything else to drink. The group ordered drinks and I ordered the Kalua Pig Nachos which I could of made better at home. For $24 I expected house made chips or at least not ones that you get from a baseball game. The old fashion came out filled with ice cubes and was practically water by the time it was drank. I ordered the LineUp Fish Tacos which was the best meal on the table, absolutely delicious. I was a couple of bites into my meal when my friend accidentally spilt his water soaking my entire plate. I asked the waitress if it would be possible to get a new dish made and she immediately said yes, grabbed the 2.5 remaining tacos on my plate and said don’t worry about it. The manager even came out and made sure everything was okay. I was very impressed with the situation until the waitress came back and said she’ll be charging me for the tacos. If I would of know she was going to charge me I would of just kept my soggy tacos, but she waited till after she threw them away to tell me. I was kind of annoyed considering the mediocre food and drinks thus far. In the end she ended up comping the extra tacos.

Tried out the Wai Kai luau experience for an evening show. Started the night with drinks and appetizers. The drinks left much to be desired, not even sure if there was any alcohol in them.

The staff is super friendly however the food lacks flavor and seasoning. The menu did not highlight any local or Hawaiian cuisine and it was very pricey for some basic food. I ordered the lookout salad with chicken breast and the chicken was dry and clearly seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper. The lookouts menu is designed to satisfy unadventurous palates.

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for awhile. Father’s Day he wanted to grab a drink an appetizer/small plate before we went out to his favorite restaurant. To say our server was rude is putting it lightly. He asked us back to back if we were going to get anything else upwards of 10 times. I put down a $20 and asked for the rest on my card. He put everything on my card (The total was around $40) kept the $20 and said nothing. When I called him out he wasn’t apologetic. He didn’t claim it was an accident, just said he’d see if he could fix it. Curtis I believe his name was, was Terrible.

Date night, so since we are new to Hawaii this was an opportunity to try out a seemingly up and coming spot. I believe that with more seasoned waitstaff the future looks bright for this place. Good size portions (I had the pepperoni pizza).

We took out-of-town guests for dinner and were very disappointed. Our food was lukewarm at best. The menu states fingerling potatoes accompanied our dinners… they were cubed redskin potatoes that were undercooked. The kalua pork nachos were round store-bought tortillas that must have been left out and we’re soft due to humidity, sparse toppings scattered haphazardly over them. The only positive of the evening was the Wai Kai show we were able to watch from our table; that salvaged the evening for us bringing our guests to such an awful restaurant foodwise.

This restaurant is visually structured well, appealing to the eye to say the least. Their food was amazing, my favorite during my stay here. Came during Pau Hana (Happy Hour). I had loaded tater tots as an appetizer, a little too salty to my liking with and didn’t have as much bacon as expected, didn’t really taste it. My father had Kalua Pork Sliders served with a side of coleslaw for his appetizer. Tender, with a smokey and sweet flavor. As an Entree, I had seared kanpachi (a fish) served with rice and steamed bok choy. The kanpachi tasted sweet and fatty, with a nice citrus twang to it. As dessert I had poni popo (a bun served with sweet coconut cream) , a polynesian favorite of mine. I was shocked to see this a dessert option and didn’t have many high hopes, thinking it would be too fancy, but they proved me wrong! Tasted just how they do off the islands, made with love. The visual representation was amazing as well, it was served as a loaf (which I preferred) instead of a bun, fluffy, light and toasted on the surface, topped with coconut flakes. The Manager (i’m assuming) offered to bring my plate back, because he thought it was a little burnt, but i loved it too much! My waitress was wonderful as well, very welcoming and nice to talk to, too bad I didn’t catch her name. I would revisit again!
