My husband and I stopped in for lunch after hearing about how amazing the food was. I ordered what was one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. My husband ordered the soup in a bread bowl and said he found a new favorite for lunch. The service was amazing and the prices were great! I work in a resturant myself so I’m very critical when it comes to service and the taste of the food. I will definitely be returning!!!!

Me and my husband came to my Vernon today and decided to stop at the mountaineer for lunch. Upon sitting down it seemed our waitress was under the influence of something. We decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and order. However after waiting about 10 minutes and noticing she never went and put our order in. I asked her if ahe had put our order in she replied with yes and did I want to change something. I said no I was just checking. A couple minutes later she came back saying I had never given her my order. I told her that we had and she said she didn’t know what she had done with the ticket. However she never wrote it down so there was no ticket. I paid for the sweet tea that I ordered and told her never mind we will go somewhere else. She kept dropping things and was having an extremely hard time forming words and sentences and was having a hard time keeping her eyes open. The reviews for this place say the food is amazing and I’m sure it is unfortunately we will never know. I’m deeply disappointed that she was allowed to work like this.

Love the rustic look of the place. Great prices!! Husbands and sons food was fantastic, I ordered a ‘fried chicken sandwich’, and it was a chicken patty (like the school lunches) on a bun, kinda’ odd for a restaurant, but all in all, very good 🙂

I ordered the chicken club sandwich and was very disappointed, first a club comes on Texas toast, the used has looked to be cut off a big shoulder instead of property sliced, and the chicken was dry and under seasoned. But the fries were awesome. very good fries

We were passing through and thought we would try it. It’s on the square so we really liked getting to see the courthouse. The burgers and onion rings were the best! Great service, lots of seating, really good food.

Great food. Prices reasonable. Staff friendly and attentive. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the Mountaineer. Very charming, a breath of fresh air. Will stop again if ever in area.

My favorite place in Mount Vernon. I take my friends there when they’re visiting from out of town. I try to make a weekly visit there. The food is fantastic. Love their sweet potato fries and teriyaki chicken wings their beer battered onion rings to mention just a few. I give it 5 stars.

This place may be great I will never know? Went in on a Saturday around 12. Waitress took 5 min to come to front, and there was only 1 other customer in there. First thing I noticed like and it was REALLY NOTICEABLE the waitress was very messed up on some kind of drugs. She could not talk straight very slurred speech. Took our drink order and took her another 5 min to come back and our drinks were wrong. So then we proceed to place our order, after me and my wife having to tell her our order 3 times she still never wrote it down. And after she “took” or order she went to the front to help the other customer pay. After listening to the customer have to tell the waitress how much the food was they ordered she could still not get it right as she was so messed up from the drugs she kept dropping stuff and forgetting what there order was. After 10 mins of that she finally got it right and the other customer left. She went to the back at which time we thought she was putting in our order 5 min went by again so my wife just asked to make sure our order was in. She proceeded to tell us it was but after about 3 min came back and said she never even took our order because she could not find the ticket, which she never made out, and proceeded to ask our order again. At this time my wife said she would just pay for the tea and we would just leave. As we paid for the tea and were leaving she then remembered our order, even tho it was still wrong, but she was so messed up on the drugs her brain was fried. As I said it may be great food but I will never know! I would not recommend this place and the lady messed up on drugs should not be allowed to work in the state she was in. Terrible experience for us.
