Indian “thalis” or lunch plates available here. Most of the dishes were pretty good. Worth going to!

***Update*** As of early July 2017 Mumbai Rail as it was originally known is no longer and it has turned into a cocktail lounge with a very limited selection of Indian food. The restaurant is under new management and there has been a change of direction on the food offerings, the menu is a mix of typical bar food with slight Indian hints and some of the typical Indian street food offerings.

When they first opened, they closed after a few days, and hired a new chef. That should be the first red flag. When they reopened, it was worse than before. The portions are small for the price, the spices aren’t right, and the food temperature is off. It may improve once the real restaurant opens upstairs, but for now, there are much better options in town. It pains me to say all this, because I was really looking forward to an Indian place near my apartment, but it’s just not worth trying…yet.

It’s a different take on delicious Indian cuisine. The chef is from Fiji, so the flavors are similar to Indian classics, but with a different take. Very delicious, the mango lassi was excellent, and when they’re a full bar and larger menu, it should be worth 5 stars. I look forward to eating here again.

When I walk into the restaurant, I first notice the beautiful decor and the wonder smells of spices! This restaurant has a decent variety of food to choose from, and the flavors were good. I ordered the express plate (2 entrees and rice) for $10.69 and a samosas for $1.79.

So in hindsight, perhaps we shouldn’t have showed up at 8:30 PM. The food was lukewarm and gave my girlfriend and I food poisoning. The server was polite, but lacked knowledge of the business (offering multiple times to “go check” when asked basic questions) and was at one point slightly condescending in “correcting” the way I had ordered my food. From what I’d been told, it’s a little expensive but has large portions; only the former turned out to be true in this case (again, possibly due to the timing) which seemed a little odd, considering the fast food vibe we got from the place. The Tikka Masala had a good taste, but was still well below a reasonable temperature for chicken. While there’s a good chance it would’ve been better had we gone earlier in the day when there was more rotation of the food, it’s very unlikely we’d eat there again, especially since there are far better options for Indian food in town.

My husband and I had a great time here! The mango cocktail was my favorite. It’s a beautiful historic venue with a story. Bar tender was very friendly too. Oh! They use fresh fruit in the cocktails from smoothie king next door, so they’re not all sugary.

Food was good but way overpriced. The cheapest entree option is already $10, and when I tried to get two sides ($1.59 each) they gave me the “entree” size (which wasn’t even listed on their site) and the whole thing ended up still costing me over $10. It wasn’t a lot of food and I felt pretty ripped off.
