Long-time Grass Valley restaurant. Lunch is wonderful, but the quality of the dinners does not justify the prices. At over $25 a plate, NY steak should not be so tough, prime rib should not have so much fat, & swordfish should not be so dull. On the bright side, the appetizers were delicious, and the service was excellent.

Consistently the best place for a hearty meal in town. I work locally and often send customers their way. They support the local wineries by offering discounted corkage and have a newly revamped menu. I highly recommend the salmon dish.

Make sure you get a reservation early for Fri-Sun. If you’re lucky you can reserve the table for two in front of the fireplace. Very romantic table and amazing food. If you plan to go up for Cornish Christmas, make a reservation ASAP. I’ve seen people finish dinner and promptly make a reservation for the same night a year later.

Our daughter brought us to the Owl to treat her Father for Father’s Day. We all ordered Rib Eye Steaks. I am sorry to say that we we’re very, very disappointed . Two out of three steaks were inedible, no flavor, no seasoning and tough as shoe leather. My husband asked to speak to the manager and his response was you have to be careful with rib eye steak and would you like something else, at this point he really wasn’t”t interested in anything else. What he should have done was ask for a Filet Mignon to go. The bill was over $100.00 and the manager was gracious enough to deduct the $3.50 coffee off our bill. We’d have been more satisfied with a Whopper hamburger from Burger King.

This place such a disgusting establishment with dirty plates and unwashed utensils. Finding hair in my food didn’t help yuck! When we did eat the food it tasted like it was prepared from a cheap frozen dinner.

Always been overpriced for the quality, but they have survived because this community is so small with so few choices. Put this place in a city like Sac or SF and they would not last one week. Went there last month and ordered the Filet Mignon. Salad was pre-made, refrigerated and rusty old. Filet Mignon was literally a piece of overcooked roast beef. I guess they figured nobody would notice. We vowed to never go back, and have seen this before. Just before you file bankruptcy you lose your credit and food deliveries, hence roast beef for the price of filet mignon. And sure enough learned today that they just got evicted and that it was vandalized by Steve’s (Owl’s owner) daughter upon their exit. They also skipped out on paying the employees (look at fakebook reviews) Not surprised! Glad to see this place go, they won’t be missed!

Steaks were very good as were the vegetables. My group of 5 diners all enjoyed their main courses, cocktails, and wine. However, the desserts were subpar. Especially subpar was the ice cream. Ice crystals throughout the dish indicated that the ice cream had been in their freezer for months.

One of the best clam chowders ever. Steak very good, prices right in line with expectations. Spendy? $29 for a filet mignon dinner is not “spendy”, but right in line with expectations for a very good dinner. Highly recommended.

Gold rush ambiance. The barroom includes original decor from the early 20th century! Full bar and kitchen. I’ve only eaten there for happy hour which is fair. Try the blue cheese bread!

This is the best place to get dinner, this is NOT a family restaurant. This is the place you go on dates as in just two. Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic food, and some of the best blu cheese bread.
