Richard Hughes and his wife, Jeanne Stinnett Hughes, moved from New York to New Orleans in 1989, and one year later opened the Pelican Club Restaurant and Bar. Born in New Orleans and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Richard began his cooking career at home and continued at several New Orleans area restaurants. His first apprenticeship was with Chris Kerageorgiou at La Provence in Lacomb, Louisiana; then he moved on to saucier under chef Gerard Thabius at Winston’s, to night chef at The Sazerac, and then to chef at Dante by the River. In 1983 Chef Hughes was recruited as an executive chef to open Memphis Restaurant in New York which soon became regarded as a leader among Manhattan’s Creole-Cajun eateries.

Restaurant hold a good echo so it’s gets pretty loud I would go on a non busy hours. Food is amazing only restaurant I have had out here that compares to it will be the petit chef but a quarter of the price. Staff is very busy but checked on us often. I give food 6 stars if I could. I recommend scallop for appetizer, lamb med rare for meal and lastly crambreela for dessert.

We have eaten at The Pelican club many times over the years and have never had anything but good food and great service. Tonight was no exception. The dining rooms are very nice but we prefer eating in the bar area. This is a restaurant that I have never seen disappoint. Very much worth a try.

Came here at recommendation of a local. It was not on my radar before this. I got there early to beat the crowd but there wasn’t one. I ordered the 3 part meal: crabmeat and shrimp salad, Louisiana cioppino and coconut cream pie. Cioppino came in the metal pan but it filled the bowl with extra food to spare. It was like having 2 servings. First 2 were great, the pie was very good but nothing extremely outstanding so just 4 stars. Great service at the bar. I’d definitely go again but might lean toward a different desert next time, like bread pudding (which I decided not to get since I got it the night before elsewhere). Clean place. Tasty drinks. Wonderful atmosphere. Come here and enjoy.

This was a first visit. We arrived early and reservations are recommended. We were a table of 4 and we all enjoyed our cocktails and food.

Wow! We had an incredible evening at The Pelican Club. It was packed, but the service was exceptional and quick. The waiter was helpful, explained the menu, and made suggestions. Everything we ate was delicious and high quality. It’s a must-go if you’re in the French Quarter!

Fantastic dining experience. We had the lamb and wedge salad. The shrimp soup was good but the oysters were lacking something… We finished it with most of the entire dessert menu. The bourbon pie was the overall favorite. Would definitely recommend. Great atmosphere and decor.

We stopped in for an early bite before the dinner rush. The small plates we got were delicious, though portions were on the smaller side. For cocktails, the espresso martini was fantastic however the gin drink was not our favorite.

I had the lamb, and it was a bad decision. In all fairness, the server did say it was a hit or miss, and it also was the dish most sent back with dissatisfaction. On the other hand, my dinner partner had the fish, and it was absolutely delectable. The lump crab and house salads were phenomenal!

The baked mussels tasted amazing especially with the Parmesan on top. The escargot was phenomenal. The calamari was a little over fried but otherwise was great. Fast service. Manager came over to check in on us. Very polite. We came for the food but stayed for the atmosphere.
