The Penney Menu – Rancho Mirage, CA

Type : American restaurant

Location : Rancho Mirage, CA

The Penney Terrace Restaurant & Spirits Library is located on Desert Island and fully open to the public.

Named after artist and founding DI resident Frederick Doyle Penney (1900-1988), The Penney is Executive Chef Jon Butler’s full-scale culinary canvas, a casually impeccable showcase for his ingredient-driven, seasonal Californian menu.

While the dishes change frequently due to the seasonal nature of our menu, the concept remains a dichotomy of Classics vs. Adventures.

Head next door to Parlour for pre-dinner cocktails or stay here to play after your dinner. This is the beating heart of the clubhouse, a music lounge and game room with its own bar, light bites and lots of mischief!

Based on 22 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.3 stars. Price

We had a nice Sunday dinner at this restaurant, but I hesitated to give it 5 stars.

My partner and I had a wonderful dinner from the Prix Fixe menu. Service was impeccable, and the vibe was fantastic. Can’t wait to come back and try the brunch.

We had a really lovely experience Saturday night. We ate and drank at the bar, the staff was friendly, prompt and gave excellent recommendations. We ordered the Sage Old Fashion & the Mezcal Margarita, both wonderful. For dinner we had – aguachile, the rolls, the cauliflower Thai salad, and the pork belly. (We actually enjoyed the cauliflower salad and rolls so much we ordered a second of each!) For desert we shared a sweet espresso martini. The ambiance was fun and we were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience.

Super fresh menu! Everything was seasonal. The terrace is beautiful and overlooks the Desert Island lakes and San Jacinto mountains. Sunset cocktails and a few of dishes to share was perfection. Friendly staff, too!

Food was overpriced and over salted. Main course and vegetables are sold separately, raising the cost of your meal. I ordered a glass of wine that tasted like the bottle had been opened too long. They are trying to present a higher end dining experience, but they can’t bother with tablecloths. The dining area is off a strange function room. The service, however, was attentive.

1st time here. Came for brunch. Food and service were great. The lemon ricotta pancakes were the best I’ve had. Cliff, the Manager, and our waitress took excellent care of us. Excited to come back for dinner sometime soon.

This is a relatively new dining option with a few rough edges and a lot of promise.

Dinner was an interesting experience. The room is very nice. Much of the food was good, but not all…for example the ‘chicken fried mushrooms’ were like crisp cinders. However, the whole bronzino was delightful.

Dining at Desert Island’s “The Penny” was a great experience! Chef Jon Butler’s culinary talents have culminated from a number experiences at various LAs restaurants. His extensive European culinary travels have rounded out his talents that shine through with every course.
