Throughout the past century of Captiva Island’s heritage, vessels of all sizes have sailed and moored here — for leisure, for sport, for exploration, and once upon a time, for the clandestine transport of whiskey and illicit goods.
Amid the captivating tapestry of our island’s nautical history, we christen The Shipyard restaurant — a tribute to the bygone days of Florida’s fishing and boating legacy, beckoning to the cherished past and the promising future, offering delightful experiences and exquisite feasts to all who venture in. Atop it all, the Crow’s Nest Steakhouse (coming soon) stands tall, providing an unrivaled vantage point to witness the legendary sunsets over the renowned Gulf of Mexico.

Incredible experience at The Shipyard! There is no signage out front for the shipyard so it may be hard to find, it is located to the left of Old Captiva House. As for the food, it is amazing! My group had the street tacos, the shrimp tacos and the Thai Noodle Salad, it was all incredible! The salad was perfectly balanced with a delicious Thai peanut dressing and a nice blend of chicken and veggies. Our waitress Robin was very nice as well! Highly recommended!

Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Ashley was our waitress and is funny, an absolute gem. All the wait staff was upbeat and cheerful. The view of the beach at sunset was beautiful. Cocktails to start, great, not too sweet and well made. Food was Incredible! I tried the shrimp tacos – smoked jalapeño aiolo was delicious. My husband tried the rib eye and gave it a thumbs up. Ribeye was served with mashed potatoes and greens, which today was a perfectly done mix of zucchini, summer squash, carrots, and broccoli. Yuuum. For dessert, Ashley recommended the chocolate banana bread pudding served with butter pecan ice cream. I should’ve listened to her but ordered the homemade key lime pie instead. The pie (while tasty, took 1 bite) was happily boxed and taken home for tomorrow because the chocolate banana bread pudding was Incredible! No pictures were taken, sadly. We enjoyed our evening too much to stop and take pictures.

This evening we dined at The Crow’s Nest and ordered Mac N Cheese dip $9.95, Steak Nachos $15.95 and Shrimp Tacos $19.95. The Mac n Cheese dip is very very good and was probably our favorite of the three items ordered. The Steak Nachos were sizable and good to share. The steak was cut in small bites and plentiful throughout the nachos. Very tasty. The Shrimp tacos came with two tacos (we chose grilled shrimp) and chose a side of red beans and rice. The beans were pretty good but the rice was a little light on flavor. The Shrimp tacos were good but we would probably choose another item on the menu next time.

After many chances, I’m over the food. Tonight we ordered Crabcakes, Fried Chicken Sandwich w/slaw on side, and some wings. The Crabcakes came without the main sauce (forgotten), thrown in the box along side the slaw and fruit salsa, which made it totally soggy. The Fried Chicken sandwich had a ton of slaw on top, (which we had asked for on the side).

We stopped in for dinner and while waiting have a drink before dining..The service was friendly but the cost for just 1 small drink and a shot will break your bank as well as it wasn’t a strong drink… but that’s being on a vacation, fun to have a drink before dinner I suppose, but I’d recommend you buy your own and get more for the money, in other words have a drink before you go out..and heads up (Grogs “south of Sanibel” is a awesome liquor shop and affordable.) so my recommendations is drink before you dine..otherwise enjoy ..the restaurant is comfortable and serves a nice meal… I’d go back, but recommend you dine either early before the crowd, or later when it’s not so hectic.

Laid back casual atmosphere. Waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. We both had the prime rib..Portions were huge.. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and the vegetable medley would make vegetable haters everywhere change their minds they were THAT good.
