First things first…Way, way, way over-priced food!! If you are coming for the food alone, well you may be disappointed with some of their dishes. Although the presentation is spot on, the meal is not always so.

Beautiful building with a great historical feel. Atmosphere is great! Pleased with service and disappointed with food. Food was prepared fine, appetizer was great (Fresh Caprese), one of the best Caesar salads I have ever had. Was not impressed with the main entree, I had the prime rib with Brussel sprouts. Sprouts was saugy and the prime rib was not very flavourful, lacked taste. I’ve had much better prime rib in franchise steak house. I would recommend to try the resturant at least once for the experience.

One night was dinner at The Tavern. This place was amazing. The food was great. And the waiter Dwyane provided the best service I have ever had. He told us some ghost stories…suggested great dessert, oh and was wearing a NASA watch which of course I had to comment on! (He’s getting a care package soon!) The building in which the restaurant is located looks like early America. The bar in the restaurant is the oldest in Virginia and the 8th oldest in the United States.

Love this place, a beautiful part of Abingdon’s preserved history. You can ask your servers about some of the many ghost stories about this place and most of them will be able to tell you several. Always amazing food, try the baked brie there’s nothing like it anywhere else!!

Celebrated my birthday here and it was our first time dining at The Tavern. Very beautiful restaurant. The food, I did not like. Food was served not hot, but warm, like it had been sitting. Stuffed mushrooms was good, but served warm as well. Service was also not great. Server forgot to refill our water but kept saying he would several times. Slow service. Just something that you don’t expect from a 5 star restaurant with high reviews. I really had high hopes and was looking forward to this for weeks.

We were there for a wedding. Amazing place. The owners are great people, and they were helping wherever they were needed. Dwayne and Jeremiah were so organized and friendly. They took the experience up a notch. Beautiful venue. Amazing food. Cannot say enough nice things.

Everything was so delicious. I ordered the salmon and I was served 2 large pieces and it was amazing! The garlic parmesan dressing in the salad was good and carrot cake was really good! No one ordered anything they didn’t like! It was pricey but for a nice night out I don’t feel like I wasted my money.

A true pleasure to the senses – sight, smells, tastes, and atmosphere – all truly delightful.

Another local gem worth tracking down if you’re passing through the Doswell, VA area. The staff were super friendly and made recommendations of things I would normally not try but ended up loving it. Don’t overlook their crispy roasted brussel sprouts as a side. And the pimento cheese sauce brought back visions of a tormented childhood of bad food, but in this case the chef likes to take foods we hated as children and turn them gourmet. The pub burger was delicious. The fried grits balls are a pleasant take and gives you the crunchy exterior of hush puppies and the creamy interior of grits. The sweet pepper jam dipping sauce paired very well with it.
