Local Guide
Town Company arrived in KC to much fanfare and on the first visit the experience was largely excellent when considering the ideas put forward on the menu but the execution was about 90% with portion sizes a little out of whack and the servers a little too exuberant for a fine dining experience. Fast forward and the follow up experience was improved. Again the menu ideas are exciting to contemplate and execution has improved to 98% which frankly for Kansas City is really quite stellar. The current menu has a heavy influence of “smoke” which whilst authentic to KC may be just a bit too overdone on some dishes. The strip loin was very pleasant but the chimichurri was oxidized (brown color) which didn’t effect the flavor but the presentation was a little let down by it. The Gnocchi (dumplings) were excellent, creamy and cheesy. The smoked mussels on toast was frankly surprisingly reminiscent of 1980’s canned smoked oysters which might sound odd but it this dish was easily the best thing on the menu and even if you don’t prefer seafood is a must order. The hotbuns were again very nice and adding the caviar and trout row is decadent but may not be worth it as the buns, whilst excellent, drown out the caviar. Tuna Crudo is the other standout, great blend of textures and well balanced flavors. The only interesting aspect of the night was that it was empty a little after 9pm on a Friday, but that’s just Kansas City and didn’t detract from a great evening.

We enjoyed a delicious meal, drinks and service at this downtown KC restaurant. It was not cheap but worth every penny. The spring salad and the bread service did not disappoint and the pork chop

I cannot say enough about my dining experience at The Town Company. The staff is the best I’ve ever encountered at a restaurant and the food, I was speechless! You can tell each item was carefully made just for you and the flavors were out of this world. I enjoyed everything we had and I just wanted to get more and try everything on the menu. The service was top notch,I don’t think our water ever got below half empty before someone came to fill it up. I can’t wait to go back, and I’m telling all my friends to go check it out.

Wonderful dinner and was fortunate enough to sit at the chef’s counter and watch all of the staff prepare the dishes. Very nicely designed restaurant and it was a real pleasure to enjoy a leisurely dinner in a cozy space. The food lives up to the hype, Chef Johnny Leach deserves all of the recognition he is receiving.

You absolutely need to get the beef bacon skewers. The skewers are one of the best pieces of meat you can ever have. Everything was top notch and this was definitely my favorite spot that I stopped at in KC. It is priced right for the level and quality of food and service you get. Looking forward to coming back.

We’ve been wanting to try this place out since it opened, and I’m sad it took us this long! Food highlights included the rolls, an amazing watermelon/jalapeno/pork belly salad, grilled cabbage and the duck. Atmosphere was super cozy, I’d call it “grandpa chic.” Lots of wood paneling, dark colors, brass and leather. Service was perfect. The only miss was the dessert menu, lots of mousses/ice creams. We will be back and will try to sit at the chef’s counter next time around!

Great dining experience! We sat at the chef’s counter and it was so cool to sit in front of the fire and watch all the food being made. The waitress was friendly and professional and made some great recommendations. She recommended 5-6 plates for the two of us. I highly recommend starting with the Clara Bow rolls. They are as good as everyone says they are. The croquettes and the bone marrow were also two of our favorites, but every dish was amazing and well presented. Overall, we may have found a new favorite restaurant in KC. Can’t wait to go back. Be sure to makes reservations as the place was quite busy. Also, check out the hotel bar if you have some time before or after.
