The 2012 Proprietary Red Papillon is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Another big-time winner, it was sourced from multiple AVAs, including Oakville, St. Helena, Howell Mountain and Rutherford. Gorgeous aromas of white chocolate, blackberries, blackcurrants, blue fruits and toasty oak are followed by a full-bodied, layered wine that builds incrementally. The tannins are sweet and well-integrated, and the acidity is sufficient for definition. It is a savory, hedonistic as well as intellectually pleasing wine to enjoy over the next decade or more.

Clayhouse Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
The grape source is the Red Cedar Vineyard in Paso Robles. To create this wine, we utilized two different blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. The predominate block lies on a steep, sloping terrace of Rincon clay loam. It is unique, and features very well-drained soil, which must be heavily cover cropped for protection against erosion. The additional Cabernet Sauvignon fruit comes from a block which consists of fine sandy loam and is well-suited for growing wine grapes.

Lancaster Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2010
Ted Simpkins is a man who dreams big and acts with even greater conviction. From the beginning, he identified the singular purpose for Lancaster Estate as producing a flagship wine to rival the best the world has to offer. Our Alexander Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon more than meets this challenge. Estate grown, produced and bottled in the manner of the great Chateaux of France, this Bordeaux style blend features the five noble grape varietals of the region and is a reflection of both the estate and its determined proprietors. A wine of distinction easily identified by its enticing aromas and lush profile, the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a reflection of superior winegrowing, exceptional terroir and masterful winemaking. In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon base, this wine is always a blend with Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Deeply and richly colored, nuanced with finely textured tannins, this is a wine that is deliciously approachable upon release but will continue its evolution over many years in the bottle, rewarding those with patience enough to set aside a library selection.

Bret Brothers Bien-Venu In X-Tremis 2013
Version Beta 1.0 and 1.1 of our Bien-Venu did not fit the 1/2 standards »apparently to gain 1/2 agrement » as a Beaujolais-Villages. 1/2 Bien-Venu In X-Tremis is the blend of our 2006 and 2007 vintages ! The yield is very low (20 hl/ha) from grapes that are hand picked. Whole berries are partially crushed then macerate for 2 to 3 weeks. Then we get the free-run juice and press the grapes. The then assembled juices continue a slow maturation in barrels for 11 and 18 months. Such an aroma! Such a racy wine ! A long story…In X-Tremis!

Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes Cuvee Traditionnelle 2013
This wine is emblematic of the estate where, from 1986, we wanted to bring back the Beaujolais of yesteryear. This cuvée is crafted to pure Beaujolais tradition: it does its Easter duty in big oak tuns, is fined using egg white, it is not chaptalised and undergoes only the lightest of filtering. The lively, intense fruitiness is very close to the grape itself. Concentration and freshness in the mouth make this a Beaujolais with character. Personality of the cuvée This cuvée was created in 1986 under impetus from our friend Jean Brouilly, who used to be a ‘starred’ master chef in Tarare and who wanted a very natural Easter cuvée. This was at a time when the fashion was for Nouveaus with banana flavours. We decided to make a cuvée to buck the trend: a Beaujolais as close as possible to its parent grape, non-chaptalised and vinified using the traditional method, hence its name. It has been much emulated since then! From the vine to the glass Grape variety: Gamay 4 hectares in St Vérand well-sited on dark granite soil; even though it is in a limestone-clay area. In Saint Vérand we are on a granitic enclave on a soil similar to that in Beaujolais Villages. Old 35 to 85 year old vines south-west facing Pruning: universal cordon + goblet Integrated vinegrowing. Manual harvest at full ripeness. Traditional semi-carbonic Beaujolais vinification, 6-day maceration in cement or stainless steel vats, no yeast seeding or chaptalisation, minimum SO2, pneumatic pressing. Maturing: 4 to 6 months in old oak tuns. Serving enjoy it within 2 to 4 years for its peak. Serving temperature: 13 °C. Matching it with food Pumpkin and bacon risotto, delicatessen meats, pork, rabbit and poultry terrines, poultry mousse, snails, hot Beaujolais sausage, grilled meats, pan-fried veal liver, shepherd’s pie, red and white meat, grilled rib of beef, meat in sauce, andouillette, rabbit, poultry, camembert, chocolate desserts. Tasting notes Robe – limpid, shiny ruby with crimson tints. Nose – floral and small wild red berry fruit notes including wild strawberry, raspberry, carnation and peony with a hint of white pepper. Palate – gentle, fleshy attack that brings you a perfect balance of fresh fruit and flowers, opening onto a silky mouthfeel wcomprising refined tannins, with a touch of spice coming through at the end.

Domaine Lafage Bastide Miraflors 2012
The 2012 Bastide Miraflors is a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache aged in a combination of concrete tanks (for the Grenache) and demi-muids (for the Syrah). It went through a six week maceration, which no doubt explains the wine’s seriously intense fruit. Notes of violets, forest floor, black cherry jam and blackberries make an appearance in this medium-bodied, high-toned, dense, rich, complex, well-delineated red wine. Drink it over the next several years. An excellent joint venture between importer Eric Solomon and Jean-Marc Lafage, these three cuvees represent fabulous bargains.

Coho Merlot Michael Black Vineyard 2011
Napa native Michael Black has been a respected viticultralist and vineyard engineer for over 40 years. His resume includes planting many high profile vineyards in both Napa Valley and Sonoma County. In 1987 Michael decided to plant a vineyard on the rocky hillside surrounding his house. Located in Coombsville, the vineyard benefits from the two defining characteristics of the region: cool, marine influenced air and volcanic, well-drained soils. To give the vineyard a personal touch, Michael propagated his own Merlot clone that he named the “Black” Clone. The desired characteristics were small berries set in small clusters, all the better to concentrate the structure and complexity of the fruit. In 2004 COHO was privileged to become associated with the Michael Black Vineyard and began to purchase the entire output. The wines reveal a richness and depth of flavor that is most often associated with the Merlot based wines from the Pomerol region of Bordeaux. Our fans often say “this is a Cabernet lovers Merlot”.

“The 2012 Aviary Red Wine has a wonderfully elegant quality. Scents of black cherry, blackberry jam, and spiced chocolate dance in the glass. Badenhorst Family Wines The Curator Red 2011
Adi Badenhorsts skill as a winemaker is well acknowledged note his appointments to Rustenberg and his membership in South Africas premier winemaking association, The Cape Winemakers Guild – so when he decided to produce approachable wines at $10, he chose partners with a similar philosophy towards quality, Michael and Bartholomew Broadbent. Founded in 2012, Adi sources grapes solely from the Swartland region, the same area from which he produces his estate wines for A.A. Badenhorst. The Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Shiraz, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Viognier are planted on one of three types of granite soil (specifically Paardeberg, Lammershoek and Lemoenfontein) and dry-farmed. The hand-picked fruit is chilled overnight and fermented naturally.

Cryptic refers to the mysterious alchemy that comes from combining individual lots of wine together to create a magical blend. Each grape component has its own characteristics. When blended together, the result is unexpected and unique. Cryptic sets the mood for a magical experience to be shared.

Denis Jamain Domaine De Reuilly 2011 Pinot Noir – Loire France 750ML 2011
This appellation of Reuilly is one of the Loire’s hidden gems. Denis Jamain’s artistic touch creates a fine, supple, and fresh Pinot Noir bursting with cassis and morello cherries. The soils here are rich, resting on the prized Kimmeridgian limestone, a geological chain that connects the Loire Valley with Chablis in Burgundy. This limestone is valued for its high content of marine and shell fossils dating back 150 million years ago to the Jurassic period. These minerals are without equal for producing some of the most beautiful wines in France. Denis has been practicing sustainable agriculture for many years and has recently started the conversion process for organic certification. Though he uses both stainless steel tanks and oak, Denis is very proud to be able to select special oaks from his grandfather’s forest to make his barrels. This is the concept of local in its purest form.

Vinum Cellars Pinot Noir 2013
Vinum Cellars is a small California winery known for producing wines of the highest quality. It is a collaboration of winemakers Richard Bruno and Chris Condos, who first became friends while they were students at UC Davis. After graduation, Chris went to work for Pine Ridge as enologist and Richard went to Bonny Doon as their distiller, and they later joined forces to create Vinum. The grapes are sourced from sustainable growers from premium coastal and cool climate growing areas within California. The white wines are barrel fermented and aged on the lees. With the red wines, varietal fruit profiles are enhanced through the use of small open-top fermentors, hand punch downs, extended maceration before pressing and aging in older French oak. Vinum Cellars is committed to experimenting and learning new winemaking methods while preserving an old world approach.

It went through a six week maceration, which no doubt explains the wine’s seriously intense fruit. Notes of violets, forest floor, black cherry jam and blackberries make an appearance in this medium-bodied, high-toned, dense, rich, complex, well-delineated red wine. Bodegas Abanico 2012 Hazana Vinas Viejas – Rioja Spain 750ML 2012
92 Points Robert Parker: A spectacular wine assembled by Eric Solomon, Rafael De Haan and Miguel Angel Rodriguez, the 2012 Hazana Vinas Viejas is made from 45- to 70-year-old bush vines (85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano). Aged 12 months in French and American oak, it is difficult to believe a wine such as this could be available for under $35-40 a bottle, but here it is. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of lead pencil shavings, black currants, spice box, cedar and a touch of vanilla. Deep, medium to full-bodied and elegant yet suave, savory and expansive, this beautiful red is a perfect synthesis of the traditional and more progressive style of Rioja. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a layered nose of black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, graphite and spice box. Joseph Drouhin Batard-Montrachet 2010
This white Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune is a wine of imposing power, venerated by wine lovers all over the world. Situated right below Le Montrachet, its soil has a slightly different component : a brownish limestone mixed with a lot of gravel. This exceptional terroir causes the Chardonnay grape to act merely as the “messenger” between this unique subsoil and the wine itself. The grapes are always picked by hand and brought immediately to the winery in Beaune. A delicate pneumatic press is used so as to retain as much as possible of the immense potential of this precious juice. It is then allowed to ferment in partially new oak barrels. Twelve or thirteen months later, the wine is bottled.

Ram’s Gate 2012 Chardonnay – Carneros Sonoma County 750ML 2012
93 Points Robert Parker The 2012 Chardonnay Carneros sports a blood orange label compared to the creamy white label of the other white wines. Made in an old style, it offers exuberant tropical fruit along with lots of pineapple, honeysuckle, peach and mango presented in a big, juicy, succulent style. It does not have the finesse of the single vineyard cuvées, but it is a beautifully fruited, lavishly endowed, flamboyant, head-turning effort to consume over the next 3-4 years. This is “love it or leave it” Chardonnay, but I loved it!

Badenhorst Family Wines The Curator White 2013
Adi Badenhorsts skill as a winemaker is well acknowledged note his appointments to Rustenberg and his membership in South Africas premier winemaking association, The Cape Winemakers Guild so when he decided to produce approachable wines at $10, he chose partners with a similar philosophy towards quality, Michael and Bartholomew Broadbent.

Fonseca Porto Siroco
White Porto was first introduced by Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman in the 1930s. It is produced from grapes grown in the Douro Valley. The winemaking is very similar to that of red Porto, although white Porto is fermented longer before brandy is added to stop the fermentation, leaving less residual sugar for a drier style of wine. Siroco is fermented half on the skins and half off, with no pumping-over, to minimize oxidation. The wine is then transferred to large wooden vats for four years of maturation.

Jacques Puffeney Vin Jaune 2005
Savagnin is the only grape permitted to be used in making the unique and exquisite Vin Jaune. To make a great wine of this type the Savagnin must be both high in sugar and high in acid. Special parcels within the village of Montigny Les Arsures (“Champs Mody”, “Les Sauvagny”, & “Les Loges”) have the potential to produce this hard-to-obtain combination. The Vin Jaune is not made every year. The Savagnin destined for the Vin Jaune must age in foudre at least 6 1/2 years but Puffeney usually waits 8 1/2 years to make a final determination as to whether the appropriate quality level has been reached. Those barrels that have not developed as Puffeney wishes are sometimes bottled as special cuvees of Savagnin, thus preserving only the very best and most promising barrels for later bottling as “Jaune. NOTE: the Vin Jaune is a dry wine! A meal constructed around the great “Jaune from Puffeney is a special treat. In our experience, rare is the wine that has the persistence of flavor and ability to enrich and complement food as does a fine Vin Jaune from Jacques Puffeney use this wine in preparing the cuisine as well you will not regret it.

the service is excellent. from the moment you arrive at the door they are friendly and smiling at all times, the food is quite fast and delicious and not to mention the variety of wines. Regarding the environment, it is a very pleasant place where you can share both a family moment and an intimate one with your partner. Too recommended for lovers of good wine and good food. In addition, the music gives a very special touch to each moment that is spent there.

The new ownership has brought this amazing wine barn to another level. Their new menu has some amazing dishes like the pizza I order in truffle oil and some spices. Was soo good, I can’t recall the name. Also a they got a new vegan truck outside in case you want something different and Saturday nights they do chef night w/ chef Spez bringing out different amazing dishes every Saturday. Definitely recommend it for a date or to dine out w/ friends

This has been our go to date night spot for the last year and a half. The pizza is really good. I have no idea what another review mentioned with “cheap ingredients.” That is simply untrue. The pizzas are wood fired, so of course they get a little black on the crusts, but they are delicious. Wine is a decent price and the food portions leave me full but not stuffed. The staff are very friendly, but yes they can be on the slower side, but that’s what makes it a great date night experience. There is no rush, enjoy your date, some wine and good food. Can’t wait to go back!
