The family went for dinner over the holiday. The hostess was friendly as can be. As were the bartenders and server. On a cold snowy night in Crested Butte the place was a comfortable/cozy reprieve. It’s a warm place with history. The family had the escargot, mussels, soups, salads and elk. It was all delicious. Enjoy a nice meal in this special place.

Great food. I ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer. Did not disappoint. The Cesar Salad was delicious, and definitely big enough to share. I had grilled lobster tail as my entree, and loved it. Truth told, I could probably have eaten shoe leather if it was dipped in that garlic lemon butter sauce. Very sweet server that gave us just the right amount of attention without hovering.

Decent food at a good price point. Great service. My prime rib was huge but undercooked to my liking. A fun setting. We were there early, it was more food focused than bar at that time. Eggroll apps just fair.

This pace is amazing! Totally worth the $. Prime rib was so good me and my friend had to come again the next night. Cobb salad is huge and the classic cheese cake, apple pie, and white chocolate rasbery cheese cake were all amazing! Keep up the good work Wooden Nickel!

Truly one of the best places in CBCO! The service is impeccable, the food to die for, and the ambiance makes it worth the entire experience. You will never go wrong choosing Wooden Nickel

Had a dinner at this place today. Everything was fine, but the bison ribeye steak, their signature offering, was overcooked. This made the whole experience fairly subpar as far as the value was concerned.

It took over 7 months of phone calls and e-mails to reserve the back room of the restaurant for a reception dinner, which ended up being cancelled. It has now taken 2 months to request a refund with multiple emails and phone calls and very little response from The Wooden Nickel’s event coordinator. If you’re having a special occasion dinner and need to reserve a space, look elsewhere. The event coordination customer service at this restaurant is terrible. They genuinely seem to not want anyone’s business or care about their customers. Our dinner was going to cost over $200 per person and even then, they were seemingly uninterested in booking the space. Now that it is cancelled, they are seemingly uninterested in returning our deposit which is 100% refundable per the contract. When you call the restaurant, you get nothing but a recording (even during business hours) and are unable to leave a voicemail. The only way to contact them is through e-mail, and it is nearly impossible to get any kind of response.

Elk tenderloin was great, cooked properly. Buffalo ribeye was supposed to be medium rare, but came out rare, and the knifes weren’t sharp to cut through it. Wine list was unremarkable. It’s very hot in the room, especially closer to the kitchen. Even when outside was 65, inside the temperature was close to 85. Overall, somewhat overpriced experience.

Place was amazing. Service was amazing. Thank you Ashley! Ashley was an awesome server and made the experience wonderful! Now on to one of the most amazing pieces of meat I have ever had. These guys cooked the back strap of an elk to absolute perfection. Not only cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly. This is the first time I have had elk, and it did not disappoint. There was a bison steak I had 25 + years ago that all good steaks have been measured to – these guys just took that spot. Crested Butte is an awesome place and this is a restaurant you should try for sure. If the elk is on the menu – try it, it’s awesome! Thanks to Ashely, the butcher and chef for an awesome evening.
