Homemade and delicious! We had the smoked meatloaf, potato salad, baked beans and lemonade, all made in-house. They also have several house-made sauces. The two we tried were top-notch. We will definitely be back!

My husband Rick and I drive down from Denver nearly every other weekend to spend time with his aunt and uncle. They told us about this place and took us there as it sounded wonderful! The food is absolutely amazing! We’ve been coming here ever since! The husband and wife team are extremely friendly and personable! We always order the pulled pork as it is the best we have found even in the Denver metro area, mind you we are native Coloradoans and the pulled pork is the absolute best in tenderness and flavor! Their homemade bbq sauces are also outstanding and pair well with it and along with the other meats they serve!! The unfortunate part are the hours and how very quickly they sell out of meat. We often find ourselves disappointed and having to go other places for dinner when we arrive in Penrose and we are never quite satisfied elsewhere when all we crave is the pulled pork, fries, Mac n cheese and snake bites! We crave the pulled pork and piping hot french fries each time we come down, even when we aren’t in Penrose. Misty one of the owners has been wonderful and even suggested we place an order ahead of time with them when we know we will be coming down. I’m more than happy to do so and also pay in advance yet, it has not yet worked out when we have been down, as they’ve have had catering functions or are out of town the weekends we’ve come down. Occasionally we will stop in on the spur of the moment to see if they are open and one of two things happens they are open – happily for them they are sold out of nearly everything yet sadly and disappointingly for us nothing else will do or they are closed for vacation or from being sold out early of their food. So we either end up snacking on what we can find at the local dollar general or 1 of 3 other local restaurants, which are good but doesn’t hit nor satisfy the spot like the bbq shack does! I wish they could keep more on hand to accommodate the patrons. I do understand it’s a catch 22 being in a smaller town. It is the best place we’ve found for pulled pork, great service, inviting atmosphere and hospitality. If you find yourself near Penrose or Canon City definitely check them out if it’s on a weekend.

While heading to Dakota Hot Springs we passed This n That BBQ Shack and decided to give their Colorado BBQ a chance. These Texans were not disappointed!

BBQ pulled pork was good, staff was nice, just would be cool for inflation to make things more affordable for everyone to go more, not really this places fault.

Finally, we found good bar-b-que in Colorado. It was very good brisket and baked beans. I highly recommend trying them out.
