My family just spent an amazing week at the Tide Pool Cafe and Lodge. Dean and his family were wonderful hosts and accommodated us in every way. The fishing was great and Chef Abel is a wonderfully amazing chef everything is homemade and fresh. We definitely plan to go back!!

Food was okay. Waitress was relatively nice, even if it took 15 minutes to get water. However, I could hear the kitchen manager yell at the staff about putting in too many orders at once, like somehow that is their fault or even a bad thing. I also heard him complain specifically about my order since I requested no onions on my burger. It’s fine if you want to throw a tantrum like a two year old over every little thing, but maybe build a door so customer can’t hear your whines while I wait for my food. Truly unacceptable behavior for a restaurant.

It has taken me nearly two months since our trip to Alaska to write this without using excessive profanity. I am still livid!. Dean is nothing more than an inmate that has mastered taking advantage of good hard working people. We were fed frozen food every night along with fish that was stolen from previous patrons. I now know this because my husband and I had seven salmon average 12-17 pounds we came home with 13.5 pounds of salmon. My husband and I both have spent our lives fishing the ocean and rivers so we are well aware of how much meat we should of had from each fish we caught. We found out that 30 minutes prior to our departure our fish along with three other couples fish had not yet been packed for our flight home. I myself went to the restaurant next door to borrow boxes on their porch to pack our fish ourselves. Dean finally arrived to do what should have been done the day our fish were caught. None of our fish was packaged correctly nor was it frozen. We along with the other couples were forced to pay to get our fish repackaged and frozen in Homer. An elderly couple went home with 1.2 lbs from an 18 lb. silver salmon. It takes a special kind of evil to steal from the elderly.

booked our fishing charter and stay 6 months in advance. received a call from dean as we got off the plane in Alaska and he said his boat was broke and that he wouldn’t be able to take us fishing and that there was no point in us staying there because there was nothing to do. Dean said he would give a full refund but never did. Had to file a fraud report to get out money back. DO NOT STAY THERE!!!!

This is a fantastic cafe with fabulous decor and even better food! The service was great too, we asked to sub the fries for fresh fruit for the kiddos and it was no problem. We ate there for lunch and wish they opened a little earlier for breakfast (but understand why they don’t, given the size and pace of this quaint city). We’ll definitely be back.

Total Scam- He overbooks people on purpose and then makes up excuses for not being able to fish. No running water at the place we stayed at. He moved our stuff to another location without telling us and told us we needed to leave a day earlier and he would pay for the new hotel to stay at but never did. He promised full refunds but did not come through with it. He told us to wake up at 4 AM both mornings and had a different excuse each time. Look up Dean Jackson and you will find out who he really is. The one time we did get to fish with him for 4 hours he told us it was not legal for him to be guiding us on his boat and to tell anybody that asks that we were just friends fishing together. This guys is a total scam artist.

This review is for the lodge. Short version: The owner Dean took full payment six months in advance, and in my opinion knowingly double booked a nignt of our stay with the hope he would have additional lodging ready in time. When that failed to happen he didn’t communicate with us honestly and then provided unsanitary and unsafe housing for part of our party for 1 night of our 3 night stay. Our fishing trip was cut short because of these housing issues. Once we got to the apartment it was adequate for our needs but is 2 bedrooms/1 bath, and is unfinished with multiple potentially dangerous issues. He lost potentially repeat customers as we would never rent from him again.

Expensive, slow, small portions, bad service. We had two hours off the boat and they took up our whole time. They were out of half of the selections on their menu. The server never came back to refill my tea. When I ordered one to go she charged me $2.50 for the sixteen ounce cup of tea. I’m not sure what the other restaurants here are like but I’d suggest trying one of the others for sure.

Service was okay. The waitress brought out refills for tea and it looked like the tea was extremely watered down and when I asked for another she brought back a tea slightly darker but still not the same as the first. The food was clearly frozen and for a $13 sandwich I would like to be able to distinguish what type of cheese is on it and not have wonder bread.

Husband and brother along with 2 kids paid for a fishing trip. Didn’t get to go on trip that they paid for. Was promised that they could come back next year. Won’t answer phone calls. Won’t even ship the fish that were caught in the river. DO NOT USE! They will take your money and you won’t get what you paid for!!
