Loved out waitress and hibachi table chef. He was funny. Never heard of the “butter fly” joke. Before he tossed a butter pat on the hibachi grill. Ha! Always love thr down hime seafood atmosphere. It’s my brothers’ and my favorite Starkville restaurant.

Solid run of the mill hibachi place. No complaints and nothing to write home about. I would go back when the hibachi craving hits me and the family again. Sushi was good, but most things were cooked in some way or had cream cheese. Overall though, it was great!

I went here for my birthday and it was an awesome experience! They were kind, generous, and super nice. They gave me a little ceramic bulldog bobblehead as a birthday gift along with some delicious ice cream! It was super awesome and I felt at home.

I heard about this restaurant from a good friend of mine who said that when she lived in Starkville was the absolute best place for hibachi. I was very excited to dine here due to her glowing review. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I waited to be seated while countless employees including the hostess looked right at me and kept walking. My son and I were the only ones in line waiting and it was not busy at all. Once they eventually took us to our hibachi table, I decided I would give them the benefit of the doubt and despite my first impression. I regret that decision. The waiter we had was great. Very attentive. The food however was awful. The edamame appetizer was not only cold, it was so overdone that it was impossible to eat. The chicken hibachi was both bland and undercooked. The chef burnt my sons salmon. Needless to say I paid $89 for food we couldn’t eat. Don’t recommend. Don’t waste your money. Huge disappointment.

I use to come to this restaurant between 2013-2015 and was always was impressed with the service and food. I haven’t been back home in over 6 years. I talked up the restaurant to my wife that is not from the area. I could say that it was a horrible disappointment but that would be an understatement. The fish was dry and the rice was bland, save your money because I assure you that your neighbor down the street can cook better than the chefs at this place. The only good thing I can say is that our service was timely and not delayed. My wife has lived all over the world and loves Japanese culture as well as cuisine. She was entirely disappointed and could barely get through the little bit she did. Her chicken was dry and bland. All in all save your money and visit a restaurant that is worth the hard earned dollars that each of us earn.

So originally I reviewed Umi’s and said I have never had a bad experience there. I have been going to Umi’s for years and have always enjoyed it, until recently. It seems like over the past few years it has kinda gone down from what it use to be. Tonight we had probably the worst experience we have ever had. Normally you have a bit of a wait if you sit at hibachi, but the sushi side is pretty quick with service. Tonight I went with my husband, and 3 other friends. We were informed there would be an 18% gratuity. That wouldn’t have been a big deal. We normally tip more than 18%. The problem was that because we were a large group our server didn’t seem to care about us. We waited over an hour and a half for our sushi and ran out of drinks while waiting and didn’t get refills until our food finally came. Other smaller groups that arrived 30 minutes after us got their food and nearly finished while we continued to wait. It sort of seemed like our server decided she didn’t need to give us good service since she was going to automatically receive a tip from the gratuity. We may be could have complained, but honestly we had been there so long l, we just wanted to leave.

I can’t have gluten and can’t have rice or soy. They were very creative in making me the type of sushi roll I wanted that was safe to eat and very delicious. Do wish they would bring back the green tea and red bean ice creams.

Ridiculous seating! They shove 12 people into a space created for 8/10 people. You don’t have enough room to eat comfortably. Terrible. Management used to assure that at the minimum it was comfortable to eat. We will NOT eat hibachi here again amount of food is less and not enough room to eat! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

I ordered take-out , the steak and chicken Hibachi dinner with Broccoli and Carrots only. I paid almost $30 for this food to get home , almost an hour away to my food being wrong ! I’m not very happy at all
