Maybe I just ordered the wrong entree, but not super impressed. Would need to come back again to make a final judgement. Ordered a special bibimbap-type dish and it lacked meat for the price. My wife had the traditional bibimbap and it was much better.

The service was good and the radish with the fried chicken was really amazing! We had the last brunch they offered for the immediate future and wasn’t disappointing

The crispiest fried chicken I have ever had! And the best part is the chicken was juicy as well! I would have said this is the best fried chicken i tried so far if their chicken was a little bit more spicy! Their menu changes every week but I think fried chicken and chicken karaage is available always. The chicken karaage was average. The ambience was great! The staffs were very friendly. I would definitely visit again to try out some other items!

Umma’s has a rotating menu, and I’m not sure exactly what’s on it now as the last time I visited was in several weeks ago. That being said, their Korean Fried Chicken is literally some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had in my life. We are blessed to have a restaurant this good in Charlottesville and I’ll definitely be returning as regularly as I can.

Looking for a late night snack, I decide to check in at Umma’s for a surprise menu with a couple of Vegan options. I like the design of the space and the Nintendo console available to play in an entertainment area (I don’t play a round of Mario Kart during my visit though I like the concept of a gaming area in an eatery—perhaps in this particularly eatery contributing to a cultural theme of the establishment). The White Rice and Kimchi taste good ESPECIALLY after mixing them together because of the ways the White Rice carries the flavor of the Kimchi. The establishment takes different forms of payment (though a sign is up at a register about the establishment not accepting Apple Pay during my visit 4/1/2023).

Had an absolutely wonderful visit to Umma’s during my trip to Charlottesville. The staff were so friendly and helpful when placing my order for the table, and I was blown away with the food! Seriously delicious and such a fun blend of flavors! The fried chicken is a MUST (be sure to get the honey mustard sauce).

Growing up in NJ, and frequenting NY/Philly I have to admit I’ve had my fair share of food (I’m a huge foodie!) I have to say this is as authentic as it gets. Japanese and Korean eats! The food is so fresh and sooo tasty!! One thing that is really neat is every few weeks they switch up their menu’s (with some signature staples remaining) – so it’s really fun to try new things and get a fresh take on lots of food combinations!

We sat outside and the weather was phenomenal and the atmosphere/music was such a lovely choice for a summer Saturday evening. There rotating menu has so many interesting options. I LOVED the peaches and uni. It was sweet and briney and wonderful. It was the best bite I have had all year and I will be thinking about it for years to come. If you are just visiting Charlottesville or live here full time, Umma’s should be at the top of your list.

Having just recently moved to Charlottesville from NYC, I find it extremely difficult to find good, if anything decent food in this town. I can say confidently, if Umma’s were to open in NY or NJ, it would definitely get a crowd. This is my second time here and they just opened yesterday. I had the bone marrow nanban, and The karaage. Boy oh boy. The bone marrow nanban is definitely my favorite and a interesting twist on bone marrow. It was rich, savory, sweet, but acidic as well. So well balanced. As for the karaage, it was fried to perfection covered in spicy honey garlic. I wished they included a side dip of the sauce, but that is okay. I can definitely see myself coming here again and again. Price and quality of food is well worth. Parking is a bit of a pain, but that is normal for downtown. You can order vans pay via the QR code or pay up front and they deliver to your table. This review is posted only day 2 of opening. I will leave a follow up review in a few months to see if quality is see the same or has fallen launch opening.
