For sixty-eight years, customers have crowded into Veselka, a cozy Ukrainian coffee shop in New York City’s East Village, to enjoy pierogi, borscht, goulash, and many other unpretentious favorites. Veselka (rainbow in Ukrainian) has grown up from a simple newsstand serving soup and sandwiches into a twenty-four hour gathering place without ever leaving its original location on the corner of East Ninth Street and Second Avenue. Veselka is, quite simply, an institution.
Borscht & pierogi are menu highlights at this no-frills Ukrainian eatery. Based on 6 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.6 stars. Price $$

Borscht is awesome here! First I took a cup, and then ordered a bowl. Please add salo and garlic to the side. As for other dishes it actually tastes like it’s home made Ukrainian food that I used to eat visiting my grandmother.

Excellent Pierogi, stuffed cabbage and Borscht. Short wait at 2p (20minutes) but main lunch crowd left. Ordered and in less than 7 minutes the meal came ❣️ worth the wait. No rushing as I finished my 20oz glass of Orolon (Ukrainian beer).

First of all I wanted to support Ukraine in this awful and unfair war. I heard a lot about this restaurant and wanted to try authentic Ukrainian food. It was really delicious and amazing experience. Also they donate for Ukrainian people which was also very important for me. Glory to Ukraine! And looking for a victory.

I tried their Chicken Paprikash (braised chicken over egg noodles) and was surprised by how much I liked it. The chicken was well-cooked, the flavour of the sauce was delicious, and the braised chicken went well with the egg noodles. The portion size was just right and the food was good value ($21 for the main dish as well as a side of your choosing). The service was efficient, although they did mix up a few of our dishes. Would love to come back and try some of their other dishes.

A bit pricey but the food tastes good. I like the flavoring of the borsh, the stuffing of pierogies, the dense texture of the cakes. I had the vegetarian plate delux, and it did come with tons of grain which I couldn’t finish and packed. Tis my 2nd visit.

Delicious, reasonably priced Ukrainian comfort food, Veselka is one of my favorite spots in the East Village. Their pierogi and latkes are the best. Great place to stop by on a weekday for breakfast or for brunch with friends and family on the weekend. Friendly and attentive wait staff, service is prompt, and professional. Come hungry, and enjoy a taste of Ukraine in New York.

This place is great. Went to support Ukraine and stayed for the delicious food. Meat borchsct is mind-blowing and the boiled potato pierogis with onions and sour cream are just as tasty. I could literally eat the potato pancakes every day and never get tired of them. Veal goulash and stuffed cabbage also very good. Honey cake for dessert is big enough for two, especially after a meal like that. Anna our server was great and a pleasure to be around. Oh I forgot, if you like watermelon, I’m not a fan, you have to get the watermelon iced tea. It was so refreshing and the watermelon was so sweet, it may have converted me. Overall an incredible meal.

First rate hot borscht, a brothy stew really. First rate sauerkraut, beautifully spiced. And of course great pierogi. Kind attentive server, even if the place was not too busy.

Food is authentic and delicious. The borscht is even better than my grandma’s (no one tell her). Absolutely worth the wait. 9.2/10

It’s a place that brings a bit of home taste for Ukrainians in NYC and a unique and delicious meal for anyone who stops by. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was fresh and I didn’t have to wait long. I ordered beef stroganoff that goes with a side dish of your choice ( I picked mixed green salad). The atmosphere is lively and there are nice Ukrainian paintings around on the walls.
