Ahlumba’s Urban Life Off Grid
Okay where do I begin… If memory serves me correctly this place has been owned by the same family since 1940. Walking into this establishment was nostalgic, like I was in an old school diner which was a nice feeling. The lady that took my order was extremely nice, she even gave me two hush puppies for free. I ordered shrimp and fries and tenders and fries for my son. Almost everything is fresh not frozen. They have huge containers of freshly cut potatoes soaking in water and the fried options are not pre battered. The taste of the food was lacking… lacked flavor and lacked the right seasoning therefore for me this place was a dud. If you desire food that is seasoned good and taste good do not go here. If you are good with food that lacks seasoning and flavor this is the place for you.

We used to go there years ago, I suggested when we were there probably 2010 they needed to put a small band in the corner near the front door, crazy… We went in there on a Friday night, seems they do have 4 older gentleman that come in from 7-9 pm every Friday evening, play and sing, the food is good too!

Quaint little BBQ joint right off 247. Its been there awhile and for good reason, the food is wonderful. The BBQ is tangy vs sweet but it is soo good. The fries are cut fresh everyday. The best part, the Brunswick Stew. The stew was off the charts delicious, highly recommend. It was the perfect balance of tomato to BBQ. The seats were a little uncomfortable but have been the same seats since they opened many moons ago. Ambiance is great and makes you feel you are in a roadside BBQ! Will definitely be back.

This place is a staple of American cuisine and serves up some old school barbecue. Most people will like this as they serve up cuw the way they did a little big time ago. I prefer my cue to be unsauced and they mix the sauce in with the meat. Their french fries are fresh and homemade and very good. Don’t expect anything fancy but if you want to have a good decent meal with a hometown feel then this is the place for you.

First time eating here and all I can say is wow… extremely impressed ! Perfectly sweetened sweet tea, perfectly cooked catfish filets, the hush puppies were pure goodness to bite into, the coleslaw has a nice flavor, not to mention he stew was delicious and the fresh homemade french fries were a definite plus! We travel the roads around here daily due to our job and even agreed that we will be stopping in tomorrow to try their bbq items… This is a MUST STOP PLACE TO EAT! Great food, friendly workers and a comfortable feel to the surroundings ! We will definitely be back soon!
