It’s been a while since I had this type of food. What’s nice about this place is that you pick what you want to eat and how much you want to eat (charged by weight). You have a choice of eating it in soup or dry. The food does come out pretty fast and there’s some additional condiments you can put on your dish. It was a bit sad that they did not have any skewers when we went.

Recently, I visited YGF Malatang in Bellevue, and it proved to be a delightful experience. The staff were attentive and hospitable, ensuring I was well taken care of. The food was impressive, with a unique taste profile that stays with you long after you’re done eating. The Malatang truly stood out with its complexity of flavors. Although the prices lean towards the higher side, the overall quality and experience justify the cost. Would definitely recommend if you’re up for a splurge and a mouthwatering treat!

Wonderful build-your-own hotpot that’s become a go-to.

Pricing is at $14.99 per pound and 2.2 lb was more than enough for two people. Spicy level 1 beef broth was great. Highly recommend!

We went in on a Friday night, and were really lucky to arrive just ahead of a large group. When you come in, grab a bowl and some tongs, and head over to the coolers, you can choose between noodles, greens, multiple types of fish, balls, and tofu, and multiple types of protein. Be careful as it is really easy to get well over a pound into your bowl. When you are done, head over to the register, where they will weigh your bowl, give you a number, and have you pay. It’s an interesting, balancing act between not getting way more food than you need, and making sure you get everything that you want as additions are not really an option. We both ordered the level one spicy soup and it was delicious. When you get your soup, there is a small table of condiments that you can add. If you like level one was spicy enough to be fun, but not spicy enough to really hurt you ha ha.

Good place for malatang! When you go in you grab veggies/meats into a bowl and then it is $15 per pound. It is very easy to go overboard when putting things in the bowl so be careful. In terms of spiciness I think it’s pretty mild. The spiciest level (3) was manageable but if you just want the mala flavor without the spiciness the lowest level (1) is perfect. They also have peppercorn oil at the pick up area that can add spiciness. Their peanut sauce is very not strong in flavor and watery but good.

The food tasted actually really good and was served quickly. However, I think they can make an improvement here and there, so their food safety rating can also improve (it was at “okay” level at the time of my visit.) First of all, use separate tongs for each ingredients! That is the very basic of avoiding food contamination. Why would you let your customers use same tongs on seafood, meats, veggies, and noodles? It made me wonder if any of them had taken food handler’s course Also there was a spilt water on the floor at my arrival, no one took care of it by the time I left.

I was surprised to come across a Malatang place here, the taste is very nice and as it should be, food was ready in minimum time. I remember when I had malatang in China 15 years ago, straight fast street food style, you walk in and sit with a bunch of people and dip skewers in the shared pot and eat, then pay by counting the skewers you finished. That was obviously unsanitary for the quality of repetitively used oil and commonly shared soup base. Nowadays Malatang is like fast-food style hotpot, no shared pot, you go in, grab a bowl, pick out the food and soup base you want and pay by weight. Then you sit down and wait just few minutes (on a crowded day) till your number is called and you can take the finished bowl and enjoy! It was very tasty and sanitary, but preserved the fast-street food style in the experience

Wasn’t really sure what to expect, but it was delicious. I can’t believe it was 2lbs that I ended up collecting. The only downside was that they didn’t have any skewers. The restaurant filled up fast. I went in right before 6pm.

Many options here and can customize my own bowl. A fun experience:D They have tomato broth and beef broth. I chose beef broth. It’s a bit salty and greasy for me. It costs $14.99 per pound.
