Food is excellent! Price was decent considering it’s good sushi. Their service still is very “all servers can help you”…so that was nice. The place is tiny though, so any group bigger than 4 will be an issue.

I don’t think the sushi here is all that amazing but I like the atmosphere and the service is great. The lunch specials are a deal and let you try a couple different rolls or of course you can order à la carte.

First, let me start by saying the sushi here is great. I normally order take-out, but I decided to go check the place out. It’s pretty small inside, so I wouldn’t recommend coming with a large group. Ordering was simple, but if I were a first-timer I wouldn’t know what to do. My server didn’t explain the menu and I felt rushed to order. I did notice that this individual might have been training, so I’ll give them room for progress. It didn’t take long to receive our food. Again, the food was great – I have no complaints. I recommend going on a weekday or early on the weekends if you’re worried about wait times.

The server was barely there, and didn’t check up on us. They had the red soy sauce in the green bottle. Ramen was good but the egg was fully cooked.

Green tea is freeeee! The fire mussels, don’t remember the actual name of the dish, is a go to appy. All the servers serve everyone so it’s weird to tip. Hope they’re getting their due tips because they were on top of thangs!

I’ve eaten here many, many times & enjoy the food, but today was my last thanks to the greedy owners who are violating state & federal laws concerning tips. I worked in the service industry for 12 years & now own my own business & I know the law. Upon tipping my server a $20 cash tip, they returned the money & whispered to me very quietly that they do not get to keep the tip. I told them it was for them & I wanted them to keep it. They again stated the tip wouldn’t go to them. I asked if tips got pooled & everyone split them & they said no. I asked who keeps the tips intended for the servers & our server said “the restaurant.” The server stated they get paid a minimum wage & are not allowed to keep tips, even when a customer specifically wants it to go to the server. My server was very quiet & spoke softly because they obviously want people to know this, but are probably not supposed to be sharing it since it’s lining the owner’s pockets. Nowhere on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant does it state that servers are paid a minimum wage & tipping is not necessary. So customers are deceived into thinking their tip is going to their server, when it is not. I consider this theft. In my opinion, all the servers should get together & sue the owners for theft of wages because customer tips are intended for them, not the owners. Even if the restaurant is operating under the state tip credit law, the owners can only “count” all or part of the employee’s tips towards its minimum wage obligations. The owner IS NOT allowed to “take” the employee’s tips, the owner only gets to count some tips as if they had paid the server directly. Virginia allows employers to take a tip credit, but does not allow them to take the tips of their employees. If I want to tip my server, they should be allowed to keep their tip, regardless what their hourly pay is. Sushi Jin needs to either put up signs indicating that tips are not necessary or stop stealing them from their servers & deceiving the public into thinking their tips are going to their servers. Many restaurant owners have gotten in big legal trouble for this & I hope someone who works there will speak up & speak out so the owners stop stealing their tips. Absolutely greedy & disgusting.

I have been here three different times and each time gets worse. The quality of the rice, fish, and other animal proteins is bottom of the barrel. On the surface, you imagine that this place might be great, but in actuality, it is smokes (literally, poor ventilation) and jokes. I’m giving it a star for being just above edible, but not worth another visit! Considering the cost, I should have just bought something from the local market.

I can only speak for my wife and I when I say every single time without fail sushi jin has been a full-of-flavor experience. Been going here for about 2-3 years now and undoubtedly it is the best sushi/donburi place around. The Buta-Don is a full recommend as well as the Bulgogi-don. Their sushi creativity is next level too! Must try.

I rate this place a 3 stars due to poor service. Our server doesn’t seems to have basic knowledge in food service. Sushi were delivered without dipping sauce plate. We asked and received plastic sauce containers. SMH

Showed up at 8. I was told they are only doing to go as 4 other tables were eating right in front of me. I convinced the lady to let me sit inside and eat and promised to be quick, the sushi was the worst sushi I’ve ever had in my life, I am writing this to warn people expecting good sushi because you won’t find it here, it was seriously so gross. The rice was rock hard and fish was horrible quality. We had 2 bites and could not finish our food because it was unedible. Over $80 down the drain.
