Was recommended this place by my barber Jay who was so confident I would like the food, he offered to reimburse me if I didn’t like it! Safe to say he can keep his money! Caffe Colao Restaurant was amazing! The food is completely authentic and tasted like I was back in NY! They are both English and Spanish speaking to better serve a larger population of people. The place is small but has a large atmosphere. It was nice and cool, tv’s playing, and music filled the room with Latin flair making me dance while seated!

This place never disappoints. Everything we’ve had is good. This time my husband had the goat stew and I had shrimp mofongo with extra garlic sauce. Highly recommend this place. Head chef is from NY so he brought over delicious recipes. Good music and nice vibe.

The food here is delicious! The oxtail and goat stews were bursting with flavor and were quite savory, it really hit the spot. The sweet plantains were an excellent appetizer to complement to the meal. The beans and rice were also good too. Would come here again!

Cafe Colao is hidden gem on Patterson Ave. The Dominican Sancocho is a flavorful soup with a light broth loaded with beef, chicken, pork, yuca and carrots. Its all tender and cooked to perfection. The staff is very friendly and helpful describing the dishes. It very much worth a visit. It my 4th visit in 3 weeks.

This place is wonderful. My roommate and I went for the first time yesterday. She had a steak dish with beans and rice. I had grilled chicken mofongo. This was my first time trying Dominican food and I am so happy I did. The waitress was super friendly and welcoming. She told us how great the tostones were so we tried those too. We also ordered a side of salami.

So 2 of my friends and I have dinner night every Saturday. We usually make an effort to find places with fewer people due to Covid 19. While Caffe Colao has a smaller menu than most places, we all enjoyed our meals and the service received. The lady that took care of us was very friendly and did a good job explaining the menu in detail. I’d highly recommend trying this place if you’re looking for something different while supporting a small business.

I really wanted to love this place. Dominican food is one of my favorite ethnic food’s if prepared correctly (like every culture everyone shouldn’t be cooking). I never go into new restaurants with high expectations so that I’m not too disappointed. First of all I’d like to mention to the owners, that it was hot as Hade’s in the restaurant which probably contributed to my rapidly dissolved appetite. I met with friends for the first time at Caffe and we were hungry. Two of us ordered the same dish Arroz con gandules ( rice with peas and stewed beef also plantains with garlic shrimp) y carne de res guisada, y un mofongo de camarón. My friend enjoyed her meal, but I thought it was kinda lack luster. The food was not hot and it was bland. I kept having to add spices in order for it to be palatable. The waitress and staff were friendly and cordial. The poor girl did her very best to accommodate us. The chef even entertained us for a bit but it didn’t help the meal. Did I mention how HOT it was in the dining room. They told us it was as the result of the weltering heat outside, but that’s no excuse! Fix your AC. I really like the concept and I hope they revisit their recipes and revise them to be more authentically Dominican.

I ventured to ask for a mofongo to see how it would compare to those back in PR where I used to live. I am not exaggerating when I write that my eyes watered when I tasted it. Better than what I had ever tried or made! And the Carne Frita (fried pork) was perfectly seasoned. They have many other choices that I look forward to trying!!! Enjoy!!!
