Maew opened Chang Kao in May 2019 with the goal of bringing the flavors and spirit of Thai cooking to the Gulf coast. Maew chose the white elephant—Chang Kao in Thai—as a symbol for her restaurant because of its royal symbolism. Guests at Chang Kao can expect the royal treatment—the freshest ingredients cooked to order, every time.

This was our 1st visit. We moved here from Long Island, NY and were looking for Thai like we’re used to. Chang Kao Thai Cuisine was excellent! We had Tom kha soup, pineapple fried rice, pad Thai and ginger oyster stir fry. Oh! We also had plum wine. Yummmmmmm! It was all so delicious We can’t wait to go back and try other dishes. Thank you for a great date night. (Sorry no photos)

First time, trying this restaurant, and we were very pleased with everything! We had an appetizer, soup, and main entrées, and dessert. Everything was prepared, expertly authentic ingredients, and delivered with friendly service. This place will now be added to our list of where do you go when you want really excellent Thai food!

My mother and I ate here tonight. This was our first time here after the change. It used to be another Thai restaurant but I can’t remember the name. I’m not sure if they just change the names or if they changed ownership as well. What I can tell you is that both the food and the service were amazing! Our waitress was very friendly, very knowledgeable and very helpful. My mother ordered the coconut soup for her appetizer and it was so creamy and delicious. We also ordered edamame and Som Tum, which is a shredded papaya salad. For dinner, my mother ordered the spicy eggplant stir-fry and I ordered the roast crispy duck dinner with the basil sauce. My duck was cooked to perfection and so incredibly delicious. We ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert and I highly recommend that you give it a try. My mother and I like to try new restaurants and this one did not disappoint. We will definitely be coming back!

I requested my drunken noodles Thai hot, they weren’t even close to Thai hot. They were actually kind of bland. My tofu triangles came in a super small portion, not worth $8.50

We were so disappointed. We ordered delivery and were excited because we love Thai. No flavor when ordered medium spice. I checked no mushrooms and there were mushrooms. Also, I see why they give you an option for extra protein because there is barely any in there for $15.00 an entree you get very little food. I spent $70 with delivery and tip and could not eat anything but the fried dumplings. I really do not like to leave negative reviews but I had to let others know not to spend $70 for nothing edible. One more thing the sauce that came with the spring rolls looked like sweet and sour but tasted like vinegar. I am a little worried it might be spoiled…. Hope not. 🙁

In visits to 60-70 different Thai restaurants in the USA to sample their Pad Thai dishes, and see how they stack up to restaurants in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket, this little restaurant in a strip mall in Bradenton Florida is definitely in the top 10-15 for the nation.
