Cute homey place with really friendly service. We enjoyed the starters the most – charcuterie and cheese with a near perfect baguette; escargot that are imported from France and incredibly tender; and AMAZING fries. The duck liver mouse was really good but I do wish they served it with some jam. The main courses weren’t as well done. The trout was tasty with subtle flavors. The lamb shoulder was sadly overcooked and tough, though the puree it came with was lovely. The chocolate mousse was a little flat – needs more of a chocolate punch. If we went back, we’d stick to small plates.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Such a comfortable and cute little French place. (Not so Canadian to me lol). Loved every dish we ordered. Especially the Pommes Dauphine, a perfect combination of multiple layers of different flavors in such a harmony, i can just eat those one bite by another none stop. Service were also first class, our waitress was very friendly and informative. Will definitely come back often to try other dishes!

A true discovery! It’s more than French Canadian cuisine because Chef Ryan Brosseau is creative, inspiring and makes seasonal dishes with love. Wonderful knowledgeable Jill gave us the best advice on our selection of dishes. As a Belgian, it’s hard to admit that the fries were of the best I ever tasted. Everything was full of flavour, everybody who works there cares and is part of an amazing food experience. I’m thinking of coming back from Portugal to Chicago especially to repeat this excellent experience.

Terrific French-Canadian bistro with really interesting flavors – most of which were exquisite! The best for us was the duck liver mousse. Teeming with flavor and great texture. The spaghetti squash carbonara was an amazing pasta alternative for our keto diet. The sturgeon had a delicate flavor that rock salt and grapefruit brought out perfectly. Wilted cabbage surprised and delighted as well. The foie gras, in our opinion, was a little over-thought with too much emphasis on the toppings and caramelized onions (see photo) rather than a focus on the foie itself. But that’s a pretty high class issue. 🙂 They had a great Burgundy Pinot that paired nicely with everything. Not a cheap meal but totally worth it!

Been wanting to try out Dear Margaret for a while now and it definitely lived up to the hype! Our waiter was extremely attentive and had great recommendations and even gave us a lil backstory of the restaurant. We got the sunchokes to start and they were so unique and fragrant. We also ordered the steak frites which was delicious! The fries were to die for and the steak was well seasoned. I just wish it came out a little hotter. Our last dish was the bolognese, soooo good! This was our favorite. Not too creamy, the noodles were perfectly cooked and savoury! For desert, we got the carrot cake and it was so moist and had a fun spice kick. Highly recommend this spot for a cute date night ❤️ Thank you for having us!

We had the absolute best dining experience at Dear Margaret. The menu is carefully selected and you can’t go wrong with anything. Terry, our server, was incredibly thoughtful with his recommendations and wine pairing suggestions. Safe to say he elevated our dining experience to 6 stars if possible! We are already looking forward to going back and cannot wait to see what items are on future menus. Thanks for a great night!
