Food was mediocre—But what you see in the picture was literally $20. Before the tip. And even tho the girl acted put out when I asked for salt and a fork she still of course expects a tip. Fries and a Gyro 20$. I ordered extra meat but I’m not sure where the lady put it. Maybe in her pocket? The portion was small. The flavor of the meat was lacking and bland. The fries were dry and old. I gave it 2 Stars instead of one because I liked the hot sauce. Food in downtown Iowa city is getting more and more ridiculous in price. But this is ludicrous. I will definitely not be returning to this place ever. If you want a good gyro then find Hicks gyros, which is a food truck. They are delicious, bigger, and less expensive.

Highly recommend trying this place out. The gyros were delicious and the pita bread was light as a cloud, so good! Perfect golden grilled cheese for our little one. The atmosphere is very friendly and clean. Limited seating but they wrap the gyros up perfectly in a way that makes it very easy to walk and eat. Can also or get it to go, door dash, etc. Will absolutely be back soon!

Went late evening…first, couldn’t get in b/c bunch of people sitting & blocking stairs to the front door. Wife asked to unlock restroom, staff says “that NOT a restroom” when the sign reads Restroom!

I was glad to see George’s Gyro had a store front & even happier to see they were open for lunch. The gyro tasted as good as I remember them tasting! However, I was put off by the price. $9 for a gyro seems a little too pricy to me. I hope they lower their prices or at least add a lunch special.

Had a gyro and fries. Below average quality with the gyros being shredded for some reason. Not off a spit. A gyro like that for $9-$10 just isn’t worth the price they charge.

You’ve never had a gyro like George’s. There’s great gyros everywhere. Throw a stone and you’ll find one.. typically made with tender lamb strips that keep you coming back.. but I’ve never seen a kabab shaved and sautéed like this. It’s uniqueness retains it authenticity but places it far above the rest. This gyro isn’t just ‘good’ for Iowa or the Midwest.. I’d put it up against any gyro in the states.

I have been here every weekend and have loved it every time! Great gyros and hot dogs with fast service. Forgot my wallet once and they quickly offered a free hot dog. Highly recommend!
