Tried them the other day! Glad I did. I was about to head over to another seafood spot but wanted to try the food. Sometimes you are rewarded for your curiosity. I had the seafood dinner with Mac & cheese and yams…FANTASTIC! Large portions and flavor is similar to what I cook at home. Highly recommend

Today is Sunday, and I felt like some home cooking so I decided to visit Ms. Girlee’s. Cute little spot. I was greeted immediately, and given some suggestions on what was good by the owner-crab cakes no fillers, potato salad-grandmother’s recipe, and the shush puppies with shrimp named by the owner. The owner suggested the seafood combo, and she did not disappoint on her suggestion or with the amount of fried shrimp(5), two pieces of whiting, and nice size crab cake!! The shrimp were seasoned perfectly, and fried even better, the fish was tasty, light and not over seasoned, nor weighed down by old frying grease. The crab cake was one of the better ones I’ve tasted in a long time. I was not overly impressed by the shush puppies; tasted like all the other I have tried.

Hands down the best soul food I had on a road trip. If you are driving thru Richmond, VA, definitely stop her. I am a Southern girl, and when I tell you, they outdid some of the soul food spots I love in Louisiana and Arkansas.

We found Ms. Girlee’s on Google and boy was it worth the drive off of 95. My daughter craved original southern cooking. She gave it a 10/10 and said the cornbread “isn’t better than grandma’s, but is pretty close to just as good.” Definitely recommend it if you want original southern cooking. Ms. Helen and Tyrelle give the restaurant an awesome vibe as well. Again, all around, excellent choice.

The service, atmosphere & food is five star. However, their cakes are heavy, dry and lack of being moist. I have tried both their chocolate layer cake & their vanilla pound cake & both were terribly dry and heavy. They must do better in this catagory.

I ordered online and then went to pick my food up. The food was delicious, hot and tasted fresh. The potato salad was the only thing that I would’ve exchanged. It wasn’t the worst I’ve had but wasn’t the best either. It was a tad watery and gross. The rest of the food was bomb.com! The bread pudding for dessert was the best bread pudding ive ever had. I would definitely recommend eating from here. Staff was very friendly and welcoming.

APPROVED. I am an ole school cook of 20 plus years. My go to Treat Sandwich is Fried Bologna Sandwich or Biscuit with Egg….You all get my 5 Star Vote….First of all Fries are on point.
