Can’t recommend: overall there was nothing that bad about this restaurant but unfortunately flavors were underwhelming for me. Had the vegetarian sample salad platter and meat sample platter. The deserts were okay. As others mentioned all food tastes homemade for better and worse, but it just did not do the job for me and I think there are better places around with middle eastern food, though while sitting I’ve heard a few people expressing to waiters how they love the place and come there multiple times a week.

We were walking around just after 10 PM and needed a bite. Two other places turned us away, kitchen’s just closed, but Old Jerusalem was a shining star in the distance. I had the Kefta Plate on recommendation from the waiter and it was delicious. Fresh herbs in the juicy tender meat lit up my mouth. The rice was moist and full of flavor and was a perfect complement to the large roasted tomato sat in the middle of it all. The food was superb and fresh. Perhaps it was just because it was late but I would have enjoyed some quiet background music in the restaurant.

We were at the Old Town Arts Fest and found this gem of a restaurant. They were able to seat our group of 11 inside. Everything tasted fresh. The servers made us feel part of their family. The Aramaic coffee was deliciously nutty and smooth. Large portions made it easy to share. I chose the vegetarian platter and tasted the Shawarma with rice. Hands down, I’ll be back!

Family-run middle eastern restaurant with a variety of authentic dishes. The restaurant itself is a little run-down and the waiters/waitresses are very kind. The hummus was tad too sour and so was the side of tahini. The other side was a sortof spicy sauce. The falafels were very crispy on the outside and incredibly tasty. The warm pita breads paired well with the hummus and greens as great for making falafel sandwiches. Great place if you’re a fan of middle eastern cuisine!

This was our second time at this place and absolutely loved the food. We had Hommos Plate, Falafil Plate, Falafil Sandwich and Shawirma Sandwich. Loved all the things. Highly recommend the place if you are in Old Town area. They also have a BYOB option which makes it even better. There is a liquor shop 0.2 mi away from the restaurant.

Me and my son stopped here for supper on Saturday to this restaurant. I ordered the version of Greek gyro. Little different tasting than the common gyro. Filled with meat, lettuce and tomatoes. Had a good flavor. The service was poor. Had to wait for water which the server never came back. 2 sandwiches came to $25. Service was poor

We went there last Sunday because we were craving some good Israeli/Arabic food. Their falafel sandwich is absolutely amazing (served inside of pita). Pro-tip – get their garlic sauce it will make us even better! We tried all of their desserts – baklava was probably my favorite, but they all ante pretty good. And of course coffee – authentic Arabic coffee was the best part! Very reasonably priced place to get authentic Arabic food. Staff is very friendly, it’s a family-owned place which definitely add a nice feel to it. Will be back for that falafel sandwich (with garlic sauce)!

Old Jerusalem is a Chicago Classic and I have been here many times over the years. I recently went with my son and I was happy to see the same family appears to own the establishment. The food and service were excellent. We had the appetizer sampler and two schwarma sandwiches. 5-Starts on the food and the service was excellent. One of the last remaining classics on Wells St. We will be back!

This was a nice spot! Mediterranean food had a lil too much tang for my liking, I got the vegetarian platter and the meat platter, the vegetarian platter everything had tang I need something to off set the tang everything was too similar in taste, the meat platter was impressive, meat was very fresh and deliciously flavored! When I combined the veggie platter with the meat platter I found my balance. Service was great even though we came in the final hour we didn’t feel rushed or neglected!
