We stopped in and sat at the bar for cocktails and dessert and were pleasantly surprised. All the drinks we had were tasty and well balanced and the bartenders were very friendly and attentive. We had the warm strawberry shortcake (not pictured) and the tiramisu and both were delicious! The strawberry shortcake is sort of deconstructed, but very light and tasty. And tiramisu was very moist and flavorful. We’ll definitely be back for dinner soon.

Revel is an amazingly comparable yet casual sister to Julep’s owned bt Amy Cabaniss. She has created an astonishing small plates dining experience with a decidedly southern American twist. Venison and rabbit comprise a menu along with your scallops, chicken, beef, pork, and mussels. All with a certain je ne sais quoi southern flavor. My companion and I both had an old fashioned. Mine the traditional bourbon; her’s with Scotch. We began with the candied beet salad, arugula, candied beets, pickled onions in a quite complimentary champagne onion vinaigrette. Next the fennel dusted scallops on a creamed polenta with prosciutto and a marmalade. Next we’re the grilled carrots on an indescribable white sauce. Last was the ahi tuna carpaccio with a mango sauce on bib lettuce. My companion declared the scallops the best she had ever eaten. The tuna was a delight to the palate. Every bite worth the price. A la fin, a deconstructed strawberry shortcake. Again me by our unanimous accolades. But by far the most gobsmacking surprise for me was the coffee which accompanied dessert. Dark, rich, robust, espresso-like. Our server, Wendy, was most knowledgeable and attentive; explaining the dishes, removing used plates, describing menu changes. REVEL is a must for Richmond diners. It’s first come, first served. Friday was insanely popular, and for good reason. You won’t be disappointed!!!!

I don’t often give an eatery 5 stars after my first visit, however, everything about Revel was 5 star quality. From the moment I walked into the restaurant and being greeted sincerely and very kindly, until the moment I left feeling excited and satisfied with my meal, my drinks and the level of attentiveness from the wait staff, I was provided 5 star service! My dining guest and I had the happy hour Old Fashioned and White Sangria and both drinks were plentiful and delicious. We were lucky enough to order many items off the happy hour menu to include the filet mignon beef tartar, mushroom tartine, house made meatballs and sausage roll, and everything was exceptional and served in portions that could be a meal on its own or easily and happily shared. Food was brought out quickly even though every seat was full and staffing limited, temperature was perfect on the food items and the taste…amazingly delicious! So much so, we kept ordering other foods off the menu to taste and try with not one disappointment! I had red wine with my meal and it paired excellently with most all the dishes I was tasting. Ended the evening with another cocktail, that was even better than the first….happiness, food coma and the other drinks may have attributed to the enjoyment of that last drink, however the quality ingredients likely was the true culprit. If you are considering a visit to Revel, I highly encourage it. I will be back again soon!

First time visiting today – fantastic. Great service, very nice staff. My Old Fashioned was better than most and I order it everywhere I go. Happy hour was complete with excellent meatballs, Brussel sprouts and bread spread. Topped it off with a great tiramisu. Highly recommend this place! One thing is parking – very limited. Will definitely return.

First off, the bread plate and spreads were delicious. Secondly the the stuffed dates were of the chart, both were well prepared and tasty. Now the bad, the ants on a log with escargot were and disappointment. I felt the bone was under under cooked as marrow was still blood red, “personal preference” and the dish was served with a scant piece of bread, not even enough to sop up that luscious fat, you are paying for. The pork loin stew was also a disappointment, I found it watery, lacking in real flavor, served with only one spoon for shared dish and the pork chewy. Not every dish is for everyone, and you have to pick through what you really like. So, my review for the time is in the middle, some really good, some not so. I will be back another time as some other things looked really good and were not tried. Update ,2nd trip for Happy Hour menu. We had the Sangria, the duck fat fries, and the mushroom ragout over toast. Much better experience this time, we were not seated next to a fussy toddler and family as before. I see where they have removed that so called pork stew from the menu, which is a good thing. All in all , it was a pleasurable experience. It is so close, I really hope they make a go of it.

Service was so-so. Server didn’t come by during happy hour for another round and our water wasn’t even refilled until our dinner was over. Prices are too high for the very small portion you get. Low tide salad wasn’t much and more like an appetizer rather than a dinner salad. Very strange was that they didn’t bring our food out at the same time. One person got their food 10 mins after the rest of us. Not worth returning.
