Tanota Takoyaki Menu – Los Angeles, CA

Type : Japanese restaurant

Location : Los Angeles, CA

Serving authentic Osaka style Takoyaki which is freshly cooked in Los Angeles. Fluffy outside and melty&creamy inside is a traditional style and totally different texture from pre-cooked deep fried style of takoyaki. Feel and taste real soul food of Osaka.
Our takoyaki is made from scratch using all natural ingredients. For example, we cook chicken soup for 5hours with a lot of vegetable and fruits to use for our takoyaki batter and separately cooked umami Dashi soup (using bonito, fish and konbu seaweed) for that. Those increase more flavor and Umami for takoyaki itself and we put our original sauce before you eat.
To spread takoyaki culture, we focus on selling traditional style and hope people have experience to touch new things.

Service was okay, it was busy so they did what they could.

Really, yummy food, service is a little laid back, so be ready to sit without being noticed, and you may need to polity get someone’s attention, but the food is worth the trip

This is my favorite Takoyaki and one of my favorite stalls at 626 Night Market! They cook them fresh in front of you and the owner/recipes are from Osaka so your getting the real deal. Will definitely check out their Little Tokyo spot next time I’m at Japanese Village.

I tried the strawberry shaved ice and it was very good! I’ve been wanting to try some but never got the chance to. This place definitely hit the spot!

So embarrassing, I use to tell my friends that this was the best spot in little Tokyo for takoyaki. They use to be so good, I dont know what happened. Their takoyaki when I first had it was crispy on the outside and soft, flavorful in the inside LIKE IT SHOULD BE! that’s how takoyaki should taste but this last time I went with my husband it was mushy. Not crispy and not all that great. In fact, one of my balls didnt have octopus in it. It’s almost like the person making it was rushing. Sure it was a little busy but takoyaki is in the name for this business. You would think they would be more prideful for their “craft”

Pretty good takoyaki! I usually get it when I’m waiting for chinchikurin (the connected okonomiyaki place). My favorite flavors are mentaiko and parmesan truffle. The other flavors are good too though. I recommend getting the sampler to try the different flavors.

We placed an order via the iPad on Monday evening and it took about 10-15 minutes for the takoyaki to be ready. We got the 4×4 order which allows you to choose 4 flavors, and you get 4 of each flavor (16 pieces total) for $20.50. I usually don’t like takoyaki but these were good, probably because you don’t taste the octopus. I also really like the taste of the batter they used. The takoyakis were however, a bit too soft, so they broke easily. We were standing in front watching the cook make the takoyaki the whole time so maybe he felt rushed and didn’t let them cook long enough to get that nice crispy outer layer.

For a Takoyaki Spot – this was a fail. Lines used to be massive back in the day. I always wanted to try it but never wanted to wait. Well my fiance and i thought we were lucky catching a time with no line…so we ordered and waited over 20 minutes for one order of 8 original / signature takoyaki. Theres someone diligently cooking these things non stop, i figure dang, busy, but good attention at least. Long story short, after asking if our order was ready twice (never heard them call out) we got the balls and walked a few minutes away to eat. We were very snacky and could not bare to finish the plate. Half the takoyaki was raw, each ball half cooked half soggy and with uncooked batter. We would take a bite and throw the soggy part away. Honestly the worst takoyaki we’ve had in 9 years of dating in little tokyo. I would like a refund but i only frequent DTLA twice a month these days…sigh

These takoyaki are really big! Bigger than you’d get at a typical ramen shop, so they stay a bit runny in the middle. That might be unsettling to some, but I love it. Lots of flavors but really original is the best. If it’s not busy, stand by the window and you can watch the chef make the food.
