Went to check out the latest incarnation of Mexican restaurants at the Texaco Drive location in Eau Claire last evening. My first impression of the restaurant was that nothing has really changed. Same sign, same basic building and exterior. Absolutely no frills interior. But, that’s where things change. Don’t judge this book by its cover! The food and service was outstanding! The menu is smaller compared to other local Mexican joints, but it does have the staples including burritos, chimichangas, nachos, tortas, quesadillas, taco salad, fajitas, homemade tamales, hard and soft tacos and of course, rice and beans. Each can be cusomized with a different meat like chicken, barbacoa, steak, tongue, shrimp and pork. They do bring out complimentary extra crispy and crunchy fried flour tortilla chips and super fresh Pico. You can ask for a few of their made in-house hot sauces as well. I ordered the carnitas nachos and my girlfriend ordered a chimichanga with asada. The chimichanga was literally the size of a brick! It was HUGE and packed with meat, cheese and rice and smothered in a white queso with a bit of a spicy kick. It also came with a genereous plate of beans and a cup of fresh Pico on the side. My nachos were a giant mountain of fresh fried flour tortilla chips layered with tons of delicious pork and queso and topped with shredded green lettuce and fresh Pico. There was enough food on the table to feed an entire family. You should come hungry and ready to eat. The portions are ginormous and the food is delicious. Expect to take home leftovers! Again, please don’t be fooled by the exterior or location. This place is legit and you will be glad you checked it out!

Huge, delicious taco salad. Has rice and beans at the bottom, which was unusual. Ordered it w pastor meat, and it was spicy! The shell it comes in was great! The table gets pico instead of salsa, with fresh chips. Three sauces are served in bottles (green salsa, red, and sour cream). Server was kind and attentive. Tamales were great! Forgot to take a pic of those. Ordered pastor taco and carne asada taco – those were also huge portions and delicious!

THE FOOD. I think this is one of the best plates of pastor tacos in the area. Portions are huge, their fresh fried chips are dense and flavorful. The queso is bomb, making the nachos delicious with really hot jalepenos. The torta was talked about for weeks! Fresh ingredients, and this family is working hard.
