Wholesome Weirdos
If you’re tired of standing out in the cold for hours waiting for a table at the chain restaurants just for a smackle of honey flavored butter, then unchain yourself and take the short drive southeast of Sioux City to Anthon and it’s Fireside Steakhouse & Lounge. Stepping in to a modern dining room, we had the option of eating in the lounge – an old school “at home” feeling of wood paneling, charming fireplace and stocked bar serving thirsty locals – like the kind of Iowa locals that look like they know their beef. Tender steaks, famous prime rib, steamy baked potatoes and creamy Alfredo are all on the menu and most meals include their stocked salad and soup bar. The soup? A true manly man soup – it had steak in it! We took the drive out after a suggestion to dine here, the suggestion being “you must go!”. Everything was filling, flavorful and fabulous! Service was attentive and we got a potato with real butter to go. Put on some tunes, take the drive and try this local classic (they’ve seriously been open for decades) for a carnivores dream in Anthon “my kind of town”.

Best place hands down for prime rib or steak. The salad bar is top notch.

Small town steakhouse, but a good one to find. Large place with a signature vegetable beef soup on the salad bar that uses pieces of their prime rib for the beef in it. They are known for prime rib, but I found (most people I talk to agree) that it’s not as good as it was years ago. The meat is good, and cooked right, but it’s missing the flavorful outer rub that it used to have and what you are used to when getting prime rib somewhere. Salad bar has a good selection, and items are fresh. Most menu choices have been quite good. Was not a big fan of the Alfredo. You can see in my picture, it’s a lot of noodles while you search for the sauce. Over all, this is a place to try. Make a good place when out on a nice day on the motorcycle to stop for a meal.

Great salad bar! Fresh with plenty of options. Had the small prime rib, was 10oz and was cooked to perfection. Baked potato was very good! All the staff was working hard and was very friendly. It was packed. But they did a great job getting people served fast. Nice small town gem of a restaurant. Casual environment. People are friendly ! Definitely a great place for prime rib. The flavor was outstanding!

Both photos taken during prime serve time on a Friday night that would be the brush used to clean the grill there amazing steaks are cooked on this place is a joke it’s nasty inside the dining experience that the coustomer sees might look nice up to date and remodeled but there isn’t one sanatizer station in the whole kitchen the satee pans are just sprayed off with a hose in the sink and used again no soap or sanatizer I wouldn’t eat here if you payed me

Party of 7 St. Patrick’s day. Everything was clean and fresh at the salad bar. The steaks were AMAZING! The server was very friendly but not a fake friendly like other places where they’re just trying to milk you for a bigger tip. She really cared! The TX rd house em in our group said it was the best steak she’s ever had!!! We’ve been coming here from Sioux City probably close to 30 years! So happy they rebuilt after the fire!

What a fantastic steakhouse environment! Fantastic meal tonight with Prime rib – I ordered a 30oz prime rib and my wife got a 12oz. I enjoy mine rare, while she gets hers medium rare. Something I appreciate is that Fireside knows their steak! Fantastic cut, minimal fat waste, and cooked to perfection for both of our plates. Our waitress, Kelsey, was always checking in on us making sure we were doing good, keeping drinks full, and updated on meal’s progress. Our 1 yr old son was flirting with all the waitresses, who continually smiled and interacted with him. We love the small town atmosphere with a big city taste. Well worth the drive from Sioux City or anywhere if you want steak done right!
