Just moved to Merrillville a month ago and I was determined to find a good Thai restaurant 😀 I have been here 4 times already. The customer service and food portions are great. The low prices are another win. I’ve only tried the Pad Ka Pow and I love the flavor. It was exactly how I like it. I raved about this place to my mom who was in town and she tried the Bangkok chicken and the Fire Dish but my mom didn’t care for either (neither did I when I did a taste test lol). They weren’t spicy at all to us. We’re used to the abundance of flavor and spiciness with the Pad Ka Pow dish so those dishes were underwhelming. We’ll just stick to what we know. I definitely still recommend this place!

The fried calamari, drunken noodles and mango sticky rice that I had were all amazing! Five Star is the best Thai food I’ve had in NW Indiana, and I can tell they put a lot of effort into each dish. I highly recommend and can’t wait to come back to try more!

Sometimes it can be a big ask for restaurants to live up to their names, but Five Star Thai has no issue with that. Whenever I come to visit my parents, we like to order from here to go, but recently I finally had the privilege to dine in. I’m a sucker for a good Panang curry, and here is no different. You get plenty of food and can usually make two meals out of it. Overall, the food is fantastic and the service is great as well. To be honest, this is probably the best Thai place in all of The Region.

I SPECIFICALLY asked the bean sprouts in the dish to be fully cooked because of health concerns. They confirmed it would be fully cooked. But it did not come fully cooked. If they weren’t gonna cook it all the way, I would have asked to leave it out of the dish. Unnecessary risk to my health!

Service was okay. Food was lackluster. I ordered the Crazy Ramen with Shrimp. Flavors just didn’t go well together. The vegetarian egg too was hot, but not tasty. The hot mustard looked gelatinous instead of creamy. This is my second visit and still not satisfied.

Our family gets take out from 5 Star often, but they offer some AMAZING specials when you dine in. Their food never disappoints… Always fresh and delicious. The small grocery store attached has a nice selection as well.
