As soon as I stepped foot in this establishment, I was greeted with not only the warm aroma of fried chicken but also an intimate massage from the greeter. A meal swipe gets you so much nowadays! Anyway, I need you to understand that my hunger unleashed a primal aggression that had been long chained and subdued. Only a delicious Aramark prepared frozen meal could save Knoxville from utter devastation. Southern Kitchen is not just a home but a hero. Not like Iron Man, more like Hawkeye after he gives up on his life’s ambitions in a deep depressive episode, but a hero nonetheless. Alas, if I had to pick a last meal, it would be Southern Kitchen.

I kept hearing about the fried chicken. It was OK but nothing special. Update:. The chicken his hit & miss for some reason. The last few times I had it, it was really good. Best friend Chicken on campus and much better than Raising Cain’s.

Eating at Southern Kitchen is like eating at your Grandma’s house. Between the warm and welcoming staff and the dim lighting, it is definitely the best place to eat on campus. The food is not only delicious but filling. It has been a long time since I was full, but I ate every bite on my plate. The food at Southern Kitchen is cooked with love unlike the food that is mass produced at the other cafeterias. Southern Kitchen is not only a place to eat on campus, it is a home.

Imagine this: a freshman. Barely making through the first semester. Broke. Stressed. Depressed. Homesick. After eating at this fine establishment all my worries subsided. Depression cured. Stress gone. Skin cleared. I felt at home in that place. I went home full and happy. I would eat there without a meal plan and that’s why it’s safe to say that UTK Southern Kitchen is the best meal on campus!!

Southern Kitchen is probably the best place you can use your VolCard on the UT campus. The food is decent, but definitely a heavy southern diet. Quality can be inconsistent depending on the day; the macaroni and cheese is either great or pasta with milk sauce.
