Steven Puppe, the owner of Smokin Pup Steakhouse and an award winning BBQ master, catered our wedding this June. We really wanted a whole roasted pig at the reception. After making a visit to Smokin Pup Steakhouse and tasting Steven’s award-winning sauces and BBQ, we were sold. Steven coordinated with us a custom menu of our favorites to compliment the pig, even offering to make his Mango Habanero Sauce without charging extra as much of our family like spicy foods. Our wedding was located at the Old Grubsteak, now called Downing Mountain Lodge. Even though it is 2000 feet above Hamilton with many switchbacks, Steven was sure to come up and survey the venue and plan out the roast. Day of the reception, Steven trucked his whole rig up the mountain bright and early to set up and start the roast, always very professional and flexible with a welcoming and easygoing approach. We really loved smelling that pig roasting while everyone scurried around getting ready for the wedding and the reception to follow. Steven checked in with us only when necessary and was never intrusive. It was wonderful to have someone just handle all of the food with no fussing or extra work for us or our wedding party. But that was just the beginning. Smokin Pup and the owner, Steven were Rock Stars! After the ceremony, we got hit with 60 mile an hour winds. Steve and his help were literally holding down the tent covering the pig roast so it wouldn’t blow away. Some of the teenage boys even ran to help for a while, it was that desperate. Steven had to struggle to keep the temperature up on the pig with the galing winds and keep everything fresh while the pig roasted a little slower than usual…all the while withstanding some pretty chilly temperatures outside. I don’t think many caterers would have the tenacity to withstand the challenges and still deliver the most beautiful, award winning, flavorful, whole roasted pig ever! I would recommend you consider Smokin Pup Steakhouse for a caterer and go see the restaurant to get a taste of excellent BBQ. A beautiful, award winning, culinary experience!

Cozy little place, able to accommodate Celiac. My husband said the ribs were the best he’s ever had. We enjoyed the live music on a Fri night.

This place has new owners and is called the Knotty Nimpf. Easy menu with burgers and steaks, beer and drinks. Great new owners with delicious food! Check them out after skiing at Lost Trail Powder Mountain.

Nice Western atmosphere and the people were trying but not really doing a great job. And the food was nothing to recommend in all respects. The prime rib didn’t have good flavor, was a little tough, and was a slight portion compared to the price we paid. This salad was substandard. This is one of the very few places I’ve seen recently that still doesn’t know any better than to serve iceberg lettuce in their salad. We were not favorably impressed will likely not go back unless w hear that things have changed.

Brought my wife down for dinner and it was amazing. Great bar menu with a lot of local beers. Service was great thanks to Jason. We both had the special which was a baseball style serloin, mashed potato with a huge salad and it was perpared and served as requested. Can’t wait to go back. Maybe a little pricey but oh well.

Great Montana Wild West atmosphere, wonderful bar and a superb selection of Montana whiskey and craft beer on tap! The crew from the kitchen to the dinning room and behind the bar are super attentive, friendly and always one step ahead of what you may want next. Fantastic selection of dishes to choose from, great burgers, ribs and outstanding prime-rib. We will be back for the rib-eye steaks soon, not to mention the Elk Hunters Ball on the 25th of November.

Out of ribs. Out of 1/4 chicken. I got the last of the pulled pork. Tables on either side of us still waiting for their food. We should have left but we didn’t. Out of bread so we were served a plate with four crackers. We LOL but still stuck it out. Pulled pork arrived but still no appetizer. Meat was only warm but good. Sides of Mac n Chz and the beans were hot and good. Waited for the appetizer. It arrived and looked promising. Nahh, disappointing. Tater Tots with some melted cheese, a big ol spoon of sour cream and then maybe five small bites of brisket and a whole lotta bbq FAT. Gross!!!!
