This is a nice little find! The service was ok, and the food was good. Had the Sloppy Joe, and it was one of the best I’ve had! If you like Cheese Curds, they are pretty good! The only thing that got me was when I thanked the chef, and he acted like I wasn’t there. I did it 2 times. So I don’t know if I will spend my money at a place that doesn’t act like I’m a person! Lots of other places! Sooooo….

The Southern General is a special find, very unique food and taste. No tap beer but very good selection overall. I had the black and blue chicken which tells me a lot about how confident the place is. They locked it out of the park. Try this place when you are on or near James Island.

The cheese curds were such a delicious start to our meals at this small, low-key restaurant. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing with the best sauce on it. We tried the hand cut fries which were seasoned perfectly and the mac and cheese had that great southern thickness and taste. Our server was excellent and made sure our drinks were always full. The extra 20% they add to the bill for the kitchen staff is no big deal because the prices are LOW and the portions are very fair. We will definitely come back next time we’re in South Carolina!

Mallory our waitress was outstanding. We ordered Poutine fries. The cheese curds & gravy was top notch! We felt the seasoning on the fries were a bit much and could have done without it. The veggie black bean burger was good and my husband enjoyed his pork butt BBQ sandwich. The cucumber salad was just the right touch of fresh and pickled superbly. Definitely would dine here again whenever we are in the Charleston area.

The food was amazing. The sloppy Joe was so good! The turkey pesto sandwich was also very flavorful. We don’t live close and are seldom down that way, but I’m so glad we were able to stop in. Cozy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Lots of other items we would like to try so we may just have to make a special trip sometime.

I will literally be dreaming of their Smoked Sweet Onion Dip until the next time we can make it to SC. Every morsel of food was delicious, my fiancé & I had the pulled pork sandwich, the Super Butt (with a delicious pimento cheese sauce on it!!) and a Cheese Steak. The atmosphere was great for the 2 of us, but prob not ideal for large groups as the restaurant is quaint on the inside.

If I could give it 10☆’s I would! Very small and quint. Located in Johns Island SC, The Southern General is a hidden little gem located in a small strip mall setting. Everything was cooked or made with perfection. I had the Cod and fries. 2 large pieces of Atlantic Cod and homecut French fries. My wife had a sandwich (I don’t have a clue what it was) which she raved about. We ordered cheese curds which probably is the best we both have eaten. AND the service was absolutely spot on! The prices were also very reasonable!
