If you’re looking for an authentic tavern cuisine and rustic ambiance, Scotch Plains Tavern is the place to be. Located minutes from Essex Steam Train, Rt. 9, and I-95, guests can kick back with a drink and some wings in our newly renovated upstairs bar, redesigned in a modern vintage industrial style while maintaining the original bar from Oliver’s Tavern. The bar, retrofitted for additional space, was originally built in 1913 for a bar in Chicago where Al Capone is rumored to have regularly tipped a glass.

We visited for lunch on Saturday and the vibe was very chill and quiet around this time. I assume it gets a fair bit busier for dinner and after. They have a really cool aesthetic inside on the first floor where we dined. It was comfortable and stylish. They also have an upstairs bar area and outdoor dining on a pretty expansive front deck.

We had a wonderful lunch! Nachos, burgers, chicken & calamari was all top notch. Our server was fantastic as well. The space is beautiful. Downstairs for a more formal or romantic setting, upstairs is casual. Outside seating w fire pits. The menu is fantastic. Something for everyone. Did I mention how delicious the drinks are?

My wife and I went for dinner. We got the tavern chips to start which were great. The dipping sauce was amazing if you like blue cheese. I got the short rib burger and my wife got the pear and prosciutto flatbread. Both were delicious. They had a good selection of craft beers and a nice cocktail list. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were very friendly. Would recommend and will definitely be back

The Scotch Plains Tavern was awesome! The service was quick and the food was all delicious. One item was out of stock that we ordered, but the menu had a lot of items that we wanted to try, so it was easy to replace. I loved the decor and cleanliness of the restaurant. I’ll be back!

What an AWESOME place. Great beer and liquor selection and what a burger. Maple bacon, smoked gouda cheese. It was so good. Sit at the bar, you won’t be disappointed. Hang with Ted, great conversations.

Great spot. We dined outside on a nice day for some dinner, and all of the food was great. The beer selection was middle of the road, but better than most other spots in a 30 mile radius. It was nice to see several local beers in there. Enjoyed an Epicure that hit the spot.

Perhaps we came at a bad time? Went here after reading the positive reviews and were not impressed. We arrived around 2 PM on a Saturday. Hardly anyone there. No complaints about the location. Looks nice. Friendly service. The problem was the food. It was REALLY bad. I started with a French Onion Soup (or their version of it). No flavor, just a lot of onions. For the main course I had a burger, wife had a steak, kids had chicken fingers and a hot dog. The cook managed to mess everything up. The waiter asked us how we wanted our meat cooked. We both replied, “medium rare.” Both my burger and her steak arrived way overcooked to the point of being dry. Why even ask how we want it cooked if it comes out beyond well done? They managed to screw up the kids’ food too. Overcooked and dry for the hot dog and chicken tenders. It’s quite amazing how a cook can manage to screw up such simple entrees. We all hated our food. Guess the chef of this restaurant wasn’t there, I don’t know. What I do know is that the food here is awful.

Great atmosphere, incredible service and spectacular food and beverages. We dined inside but outside looked like a phenomenal experience as well.

Stopped in on a Tuesday for Happy Hour specials around 430pm and took a seat upstairs in a booth. The place is gorgeous and the menu has something for everyone. The food was good and prepared as ordered, a little disappointed with service as it was not busy and our server only walked by once to check on us without stopping. I’m sure it’s jamming on a Fri or Sat night, and looked like the entertainment listing was on point.
