Cony is an institution in National City. The service at the place is friendly, kind and very patience, my wife and I loved getting to meet Grace she did an awesome job as it waitress, had evening ready and ordered very fast for us. Cony’s food brought me back to my childhood when I lived with my grandparents. The smells of the food, the looks of the food, the taste . All of it was just amazing. The Chile rellenos with tomato sauce, the way that the Chile was bathed and put onto the egg batter just made the Chile relleno taste and look perfect. A piece of that chile relleno inside of your tortilla, the tomato sauce just falls out of the taco making it a perfect combination. The cheese melted inside the Chile relleno and when you cut on it just melts on your fork and mouth…… The moment I cut into the Chile relleno I was transported to my Abue’s cocina when I was a kid. The enchilada roja with cheese was just perfect! You can taste the time they invest to create the magic on the red sauce. It is just right not too spicy not too salty, just the right balance between tortilla, queso and salsa. Just to made to perfection. The hard taco with shredded beef, potato, fresh lettuce and tomatoes was yummy. The tortilla was deep fried to make it just ready to carry the ingredients and give it a great bite. My wife and I are coming back and we are definitely bringing our family. Evening was amazing, Cony has an amazing story behind the creation of this beautiful place, She knows all her clients, she takes the time to welcome them and she is so sweet, kind and humble. She reminded me at my grandma’s and my Tias. This was such a walk in memory lane. By the way she has an amazing caldo de res, y caldo de pollo, pozole, menudo and so much more. Dumb Friends and stuff
They staff was very rude to us since the beginning. While I can understand, busy times are stressful, but it doesnt excuse the poor service. Some of our party was just finding parking. The hostess harassed my sister about 6 or 7 times since the span of about 10 minutes. They got our orders wrong or didn’t bring parts of each dish, they made us wait half an hour just for menus even though we were already seated. They practically overall ignored us for the entire time and got huffy when we decided to leave without waiting for the rest of the food. They are lucky enough we still tipped.

So I’ve been going to this place for a few years now and the food is really good. It hurts me to write this two star review but on my most recent visit my table and I ordered the menudo with the patas and once it was time to pay we noticed they had charged us double the price for the patas. They wanted to charge us 20& each when the menu said 10. When we confronted the owner we could tell it wasn’t their first time doing something like this. They corrected the bill and didn’t even apologize about it. It didn’t seem like an honest mistake. As much as I like the food we felt taken advantage of and probably won’t be going back. The food is good but double check your bill before you pay.

We visited Sierra Cafe on Memorial Day, 2022. My wife and I were looking for breakfast at a restaurant with outside dinning. We found that place at La Sierra Cafe. The food was fresh and tasty. We ordered huevos a la mexicana for me and ham and eggs for my wife, plus 2 coffees. Prices were fair but service was not as good as we expected. Our food took longer to expected to arrive after we had to ask another waiter for our food because our waitress just disappeared. 4 stars for La Sierra Cafe. Maybe they can get 5 stars next time, if they improve service.
