Okay so ngl I did feel a little awkward because we were the youngest people in the restaurant and we are in our 40s so that is saying something haha. It did feel like the early bird special retirement community which is fine. My mom worked in nursing homes so I like the elderly. But it did feel a little funny. However looking at the menu I can see why it is definitely an old-fashioned menu and if you are older then you will probably really enjoy some of these options. But young people can enjoy some homestyle cooking sometimes as well haha. What I found is that the service was amazing and all of the food was really good. We were seated by a little old lady who seemed like the manager or perhaps even the franchisee but she was really cute and sweet. And our server was outstanding my husband even commented that he felt bad for her like girl you need to go get yourself a better job I don’t mean to be mean but you could definitely be in fine dining. And when we were getting ready to leave she started boxing up our food for us and I said that’s a bummer you have to do that and she said oh no I just like to do that because a lot of the customers are older so I’m used to just helping them out. Like what a sweetheart. Honestly my only regret is I should have tipped her even more. Like I’m a pretty good tipper but she should have gotten a few more dollars even like my goodness. She was so attentive and nice and good at her job. And I did drive a bit out of my way to go to this location because they had better reviews compared to other options and I can see why because the attention to quality was pretty high for a chain. I rarely go to chains anymore because I feel like people don’t care when they are in a corporate setting like that. But they really care at this black eyed pea. I also love the attention to detail like the rolls and the house salad were really good. It was a perfect compliment to the other dishes and I really loved my salad. A lot of places do not put cheese on a house salad anymore because it is getting to be too expensive so I really appreciate that. It was delicious I wish I had another portion of salad right now haha. I would recommend it to any fans of home style food.

Our service was very good, meal was a bit above average. Fried green tomatoes had good flavor but were cut fairly thick so they weren’t quite done all the way. BBQ pork sandwich and peach cobbler were good. Staff were all friendly.

Did you know Black Eyed Pea was still around? Neither did I. Just as I remembered. Chicken fried steak still hit the spot. Wish they still had the corn bread. Great lunch with great service.

12/27/22-I was disappointed in my chicken sandwich. It was super dried out. Their prices have gone up, but overall quality is average or below. For the price of the Fried pickles you only got a few pieces, which is sad considering how cheap they are to make. They really need to look at their portions. My mom liked what she ordered, but said it was greasy. The inside of this location is at least cleaner looking then the one on Colorado Blvd, and has a nice modern look where as the other looks ran down. At least this location looks like it is cared for.

Very pricy for what you get. The chicken fried chicken I got was all breading and very little chicken for $19! Don’t have them split in kitchen, I ended up with the no neat half. Mashed potatoes were so runny I couldn’t eat with a fork, a lot has changed here Disappointing. We used to frequent here weekly and after last visit probably won’t be back. The manager will never make it right so you are just out of the money and a bad taste in your mouth. Food used to be better Service was good, not from manager.

Really sucks the Colorado Blvd location shut down. This is a good looking restaurant with a good sized bar, but the service is abysmal. Been here 3x now and everytime they’ll make you wait 10 minutes with nobody in front you… The bartenders will stare at you at the bar with no customers. Once you finally get seated it takes at least another 10 minutes to be acknowledged. Luckily when the food comes out its great

Met some friends here for lunch and got the chicken fried steak, squash casserole and fried okra. All the food was hot and delicious. The service was fantastic. For me, the prices were fairly high for just a lunch. I got the senior lunch at $17.49. The senior lunch does come with a free drink which was nice. With tip, the lunch cost me $22. Because of the higher price, however, I won’t be able to go here very often.

My boyfriend and I came to Denver for a few days trip, sightseeing and visiting family. On our last night we got home hungry and not sure where to eat but Black-eyed Pea was across the street from our hotel so we decided to check it out. It was later in the evening on a weekday and there wasn’t really anyone else in the restaurant that we could see. We were kindly greeted and sat down at the bar so we could place a take out order.

Food was hot and fresh!! Service was outstanding! Drew took care of our needs and kept our drinks filled.!!! Atmosphere was quiet and calming…. It needs a bit more diversity, but it may some.. as some individuals have a hard time with GOOD change for our future…. Other than that!!! Hidden location, Great Food and Outstanding Service!!!!
