It’s hard to find a vegan-friendly Mexican restaurant in Houston but Cochinita & Co has totally nailed it with vegan and vegetarian options. Victoria, the delightful owner of this restaurant, isn’t even vegan but through a partnership with another health conscious restaurant she garnered a loyal vegan following — and her menu reflects it in a big way! She even wrote a cookbook! Every bit of food we had here was amazing and what’s cool is that you see some really unique ingredients like lion’s mane and oyster mushrooms. We can’t wait to come back and try more.

Great place for some amazing real Mexican food. The staff is very friendly. If you are new to the place they will help you out to find what is right for you. You have to try out the weekend brunch menu. I believe I have found my new place to eat great food and have some great drinks. If you are in this part of town you need to stop by to try it out.

This little gem was wonderful! The place was decorated nicely. The staff was friendly and most importantly the food was delicious! I tried three different tacos. The barbacoa, pork, and shrimp. They were all very good, but shrimp was the winner for me. The pineapple salsa was fantastic! I would recommend a side of it for all your tacos! I will definitely be back. P.S. the French fries are a must!

Was a able to come to this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. It’s an order-at-the-counter restaurant. So getting water and salsa was self serve.

The food was great and the environment is laid back (a bit hipster). I ordered the chilaquiles and added chorizo and avocado.

We were in the area for a different restaurant but they were packed and wasn’t accepting walk ins. Instead I found Cochinita & Co on Yelp and boy, we’re glad we didn’t eat at our first stop! It’s run by Chef Victoria Elizondo who is a 2023 James Beard Award semifinalists in the Emerging Chef category. It’s a small but quaint shop with plenty of sitting and tons of natural lighting. When we visited they just got their liquor license and was experimenting with some alcoholic drinks. We got to try a cucumber lime spritz and passion fruit spritz. Our favorite was the cucumber lime, super refreshing and flavorful! They make everything in house and made a cucumber syrup specifically for this spritz. The passion fruit wasn’t as flavorful as the cucumber lime and even the chef and employees said they were still working out the kinks on the passion fruit spritz.

We randomly happened upon this place and we’re so glad we did. We loved the atmosphere and the food. My husband loved the torta de asado which was the special of the day. The owner said she tries to change up the menu and have different specials. I enjoyed the shrimp tacos and tacos dorados. My little baby also loved the sopa de fideo. Oh and the Brown Sugar Latte was scrumptious.

Cochinita & Co. has become one of my local favorites. It’s a perfect spot for some food and a latte. The layout and vibe is much more of a modern cafe, but their food steals the show. They have a variety of Mexican dishes with really unique and authentic flavor. I recommend anything from the mole, the totopos and guac, nopales… honestly it’s hard to go wrong. Extra points for the music selection, always varied and good.
