You remember the movie Richie Rich and his mansion with a McDonald’s in the basement? Well if I ever became rich like that I’d have this joint as one out of several eateries in my basement. I rarely give 5 starts but this place always hits the spot. I work down the street and have been passing this place for 5 years thinking how could this shed compete with my (previous) favorite Rita’s water ice. Well this shed (it technically is a shed) has THE best snowball/waterice I’ve ever had. Some places have too much ice, others have syrup that is too sweet, Shorty’s has the right balance. There are a ridiculous amount of choices to choose from and you can also mix flavors too. On hot days or after MMA training this place is all I think of. It is really cheap compared to restuarant priced items but may seem a little more expensive when compared to a Slurpee. Let me assure you, I usually get the smallest size (8 oz, $1.80) and they give you alot, sometimes I can even share with my wife. If I get it larger I usually share even though I don’t want to. It is worth every penny. I really hope this review doesn’t get so much attention and cause them to relocate due to popularity. There’s always at least one person ordering whenever I pass or stop by this place in the summer. Wish it was open year round. Oh, make sure you bring cash or whatever pocket change you got in your car tray.

Reading the reviews I was hoping for a great experience somewhat close to the authentic shaved ice snowballs I used to get from The Castle on Hollins and Hammonds Ferry Road. (Closed since Covid) This was not it. It was like I paid for a cup of ice. They lacked flavor and the ice was chunky. I guess my search continues.

Great little place right off the highway with over 30 different flavors. Their always adding more but still keep the classics as well. I’ve been going there for years and always look forward to the weather heating up because I know Shorty’s will be opening.
