Slow service today. 15 min. to make a 6″ sub. There were only three other people ahead of me. To be fair the sandwiches are worth the wait but the wait today tested my patience. Last time I was visited Berto’s I waited the same amount of time for a phone-in order.

Grabbed lunch here the other day – I had the meatball sandwich, Italian Wedding soup AND tried Justin’s Chili. All fantastic – best meatball sandwich around, hands down. Cooked and seasoned perfectly (not too much garlic like many places do), delicious sauce. Justin and Vickie were friendly, welcoming and made sure we were taken care of. Very cozy, clean place and overall it was an awesome experience!!

This place is a hidden gem! Sandwiches made to order with high quality ingredients. Pasta salads are very good (bowtie is my favorite) and their made fresh in-house giardiniera salad can be eaten by itself. Best of all? Customer service. Very nice people who enjoy their job work here and it shows in how they present themselves with the public. They’ve been around for longer than the 25 years I’ve lived in Downers Grove and there is a clear reason why.

My husband and I love this deli, have been frequenting for years, it was even what I wanted as my first meal after giving birth. We decided to cater for our son’s baptism and the food was amazing! Our guests loved the tray of sandwiches, tortellini and baked mostaccioli, there were no left overs. The family that owns this deli is always so sweet and even helped us load the order into the car, we will always love and support this business.
