Junpuu Menu – Honolulu, HI

Type : Ramen restaurant

Location : Honolulu, HI

Finding authentic Japanese food was difficult for Eiji Kato when he first moved to the island of Oahu in 2000. After spending time working in different restaurants around the area, he took his love of cooking to the next level and decided to open Junpuu, a ramen-based Japanese restaurant for residents in the Honolulu, HI, area.

Junpuu translates to “smooth sailing” in English, which is what Eiji strives for every day at this ramen eatery. Inspired by his mother, who was a Japanese cooking teacher, he uses his experience to create his own version of ramen combinations that are truly unique.

Everything at this ramen restaurant is also made from scratch each day, ensuring fresh high-quality with every dish.

This snug, bustling eatery with outdoor seating offers unique versions of Japanese noodle soups. Based on 602 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.7 stars. Price $$

This place deserve a better rate and more reviews. Absolutely delicious ramen and great service. The broth was flavorful but not overpowering, the noodles had just the right firmness, and the pork in the tonkatsu ramen fell apart as I ate.

Server was very knowledgeable about the gluten free options and asked if it was allergy/preference. Only the veggie ramens and the shoyu ramen (broth) are gluten free. However with the shoyu ramen, the egg and the char siu are not gluten free. You can also add spice to any. I got a 4/10 spice and it was the perfect medium level for me. A nice burn while still being able to taste the food. The noodles are the best GF noodles I have ever had. I don’t know what dark magic makes them so chewy, but they’re like regular noodles. Highly recommend!

I’m being dramatic when I say this is the best veggie ramen I’ve ever had but there’s some truth in there as well. If you’re like me and enjoy a rich broth, this place is pretty good. I was looking at photos and thought the ramen looked a little plain, but I’ve never been more deceived. It was super rich but not too heavy. I was super hungry when I went and this place was perfect for what I was feeling. I regret not going sooner!

This review is coming kinda late – considering I haven’t eaten at Junpuu in 2 years BUT – I can’t stop thinking about their vegan ramen so – here it is: it is hands down the best vegan ramen I’ve ever, ever had. It’s the best broth, the toppings are amazing, the oodles are perfect and I wish I could have it every week.

This place is wonderful. The gluten free ramen is excellent, the noodles are amazing. There are also very good vegan and vegetarian options! The best ramen I’ve had since visiting Kyoto!

Had heard good things about this place but I felt the ramen was not as good as I expected. Great service though!

The ramen was okay, not my favorite. Restaurant space is also crowded. I had higher expectations for this place just because it’s talked about a lot, but to me it’s overrated. Service is decent, got forgotten about a lot and took them forever to bring our check.

We tried the quesadilla, the black garlic ramen and the spicy tonkotsu ramen. The ramen soup is really flavorful!
