In the 50’s and 60’s Floyd Whitt had a unique hobby of building barbecue pits. Floyd, a premier bricklayer in the Tennessee Valley, experimented with several pit designs and sauce recipes until he perfected the way barbecue is cooked in the South. Neighbors passing by and catching the aroma of the hickory-smoked meat, stopped to look, smell, and buy. Instead, Floyd and Laura, his wife, passed out samples and asked only for feedback. Laura dreamed of building a small building in their backyard — cooking and selling enough barbecue to put their four children through college, an idea that turned into a great tradition. Floyd left his bricklaying profession to open their first store on Labor Day of 1966.

Always good! I love the lunchbox special! You get a sandwich, two sides, a cookie and a drink for about $10. Whitt’s has been around for a very long time and I see why. I will continue to go get the lunch box special along with family packs, loaded potatoes and other things. All locations in Alabama and Tennessee have been great. Food has always been consistent.

Great drive thru service by Tegan. He got my order in jiffy. Really awesome food at great price. Couldn’t go back to Huntsville without my Whitts. There smoked turkey is amazing and affordable. I enjoy there white sauce also.

My favorite bar-b-q place, with the best tasting pork. The other meats are also good. The Spring Ave location is drive through/walk up only; the 6th Ave location has limited seating. It’s popular, so there is a wait at either location during lunch or supper time; IMO it’s worth the wait.

The best barbecue sandwich I have had in a while. Had to go through the drive-thru but it was worth every second of it. Thank you so much for the best tasting sandwich I’ve had in a while. Pulled pork that is. You want a good sandwich or a good food go by Whitts barbecue…..

Their beef potatoe was amazing but their spare ribs were trash I guess it a preference but I’m not a fan of oven cooked ribs and they don’t trim the membrane from the bones. I’m sure the locals love but they can keep them ribs

Good and quick service. Their box lunch is a great deal. Sandwich, beans, potato salad, drink and cookie. All for under $10.

Bought a lunch for 6 based on a local recommendation. The barbecue was ok , a little bland . The “sauce” was just a small cup of a vinegar potion, greenish , greasy .? Bordered on nasty . It did perk up the somewhat flavorless meat however . The staff were busy , they seemed to be aggravated by all those pesky customers, short tempered and unfriendly. Made me wonder why the locals supported the business .

Food is decent and reasonably priced, but everyone should consider this location is carry-out or drive-through only, with no sitting area indoors or outdoors. Also, there are no restroom facilities, and they are only open for lunch and only 5 days a week. Only good if you need lunch and carrying home or to the office. If you are visiting the area and not a local, it’s probably not the best place to go.
