Make sure to make a reservation, and then relax and enjoy a meal to remember. We think this is likely the best restaurant in South Dakota… and one of the best places we enjoy – anywhere. Every dish we’ve had pops with flavor and is clearly made with the freshest and best ingredients.

Best food experience! Amazing food, and so unexpected in Custer! Met the chef and his family. Great story! Great service. Ben was great! Dining conversations with fellow diners made for a dining experience to remember and definitely return again. Couldn’t recommend any higher.

Who would have thought I’d find such amazing food in a small town like Custer? I read some of the 1 star review and I feel sorry for these people. I’m still amazed by how refined the food was at Skogen. Every dish I tried tested amazing and was cooked beautifully. For a fine dining experience, it’s perfect. If I’m back in the area, there’s no doubt this place will be at the top of my list to visit again. The food here made me very very happy.

Wow, what an amazing experience that I did not expect to happen in Custer, SD! I was passing through town and looked up “best restaurants in the Black Hills” and the internet did not disappoint. I kept thinking what I was eating was my favorite thing and each dish just got better and better. If I ever find myself back within 100 miles of Skogen, I will make it a point to eat another meal here.

Our favorite restaurant was Wine Cellar, but after eating at Skogen, this is the best that we’ve been to in the black hills!

This small town restaurant has a big city menu with stellar execution. It was a charming and amazing experience we never expected to find in Custer SD. The restaurant is modern and cozy. Our server was fantastic and educated with the menu. We enjoyed 3 courses and each item we ate was delicious, cooked to perfection. Don’t sleep on the butter cake. We couldn’t have had a better time at Skogen. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Skogen really sets the standard for fine dining and is well deserving of its reputation. I would say the meals we had were comfortably in the top 3 I’ve had and rated with starred venues in Switzerland and Australia. I couldn’t believe the flavour packed into the tuna tostada. The halibut with white truffle polenta was superb as were the Chocolate budino, which I wanted to last forever. Service was exceptional. A must do when in Custer.

Gem of a place! The veal cheek was quite possibly the most tender moist piece of meat I have had in my life. Oh and the Pineapple Sorbet was light but packed with Flavor!!

The food was amazing! The server was so friendly and brilliant in describing the food and wines! Was fabuloilus to meet the chef who helped with the serving and took the time to visit a bit and inquire a bit about how we liked the food. Was also fun to sit out on their new porch too. Can’t say enough positive things about our great experience at this place.

The food was prepared exquisitely. So delicious. The appetizer, entree, and desserts all had surprising elements of flavor that only a culinary artist could have come up with.
