My wife and I have been looking for a new place to call our own since our favorite spot closed during COVID and saw this remodel and were interested for some time.

Ok, let me give you the teas about this place. If it is your first time, they recommend a dish if that is ok with you. And the one they recommend is you. I was like do they recommend the same one for everyone? So I went undercover. I stayed there for hours and asked everyone who ordered. Is that your first time? And do you like what they recommend for you and they all said yes, and it was all different dishes? And the ones who said no, it’s not their first time, but they kept coming back and reordering the same dish that was recommended to them. Someone try something new and love it.

I have passed by “Mel’s Diner” for OVER 20 years, never stopping. Saturday I stopped in on Waffles and Whatnot. Food was FRESH, service was speedy and courteous. My only complaint is that it was TOO MUCH FOOD lol. Kudos to the chef for a job well done!

This is a delicious restaurant with an amazing story and an amazing owner (Derek). Sanford needs a restaurant like this, and the city is in the process of trying to run him out of town. I am embarrassed and outraged as a community member that the city of Sanford would boldly act like this without remorse. Whenever they are able to reopen, PLEASE give them a try and welcome them into our community the way they should be welcomed ❤️ also let them pick your food you won’t regret it !!!

Waffles and What not has become our new favorite place. The food is always delicious and everyone is super friendly. We’ve been there about 6 times since they opened and I’ve always had them order for me, anything with the sausage gravy on it is to die for!!

I want to be fair and state that nothing was BAD… But it was an awkward experience. Friendly fella greeted me when I walked in, but I didn’t understand it was a “place your order at the window, then seat yourself” type situation. Food seemed a bit expensive for a diner, but the portion I got with my omelette was huge! That being said, if I pay $16 for an omelette, I expect actual plate and silverware, not paper and plastic. The cook came and checked on me during my meal and even brought me a couple of sides to try (Mac and cheese was on point!). It was uncomfortably quiet for most of my meal and finally someone turned on some background music. I will probably try it one more time, now that I have a better understanding of what to expect… But I think a sign explaining the concept when you walk in would do better than the gentleman that greeted me. He was friendly, but it was an awkward exchange until I fully understood what was happening.

I’ve actually been more than once. I let them choose for me every time. Every thing about this place from the time you walk in to the time you walk out was enjoyable. I recommend you go see what this experience is for yourself. Make sure you go with an open mind and an empty stomach.

Very casual atmosphere, food was delicious and I loved that as first-time guests we had the option to order from the menu or have them prepare what they thought we’d love. We did not choose our own food – I LOVED that I did not have to decide what I wanted and someone did that for me!. For the casual atmosphere, minimal service (paper plates, etc), we were quite surprised that our bill was so high. $50 for a basic breakfast for 2 people means we probably won’t be back again.
