Was so excited when I read about Puerta opening up in Charlotte NC. I already knew it was going to be great because it was from the Crunkleton people and I was not wrong. They have an amazing space. You go into the back and it’s almost like a lounge with a DJ and a bar and it’s pretty dark. You walk through the restaurant and the front is very bright and the tables are pretty close together. They also have a really great bar. They also have outdoor space in the front. Probably about eight tables. Every table was full when I went. The service was fantastic as I expected. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. I had two spicy margaritas, one with tequila and one with Mezcal. They were both delicious. I shared the jicama salad with my friend. The jicama and watermelon were so fresh and it had a delicious dressing. The chicken empanadas were flaky and crunchy on the outside and full of deliciousness on the inside. It came with a chipotle aïoli that was to die for. I also had the rock shrimp tempura taco. It was small for six dollars tho. I feel like next time I would get a main course. We also shared the queso which was delicious that came with homemade tostada chips. We had churros for dessert and they came with a chocolate and a caramel sauce- they were made probably two seconds before and were crunchy and full of flavor. The sauces were amazing as well. I’m already planning my next trip back!

I was so fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Puerta for their soft opening. First thoughts: comfortable, good vibes only — and with the character and acceptance of a favorite spot that has been visited for years.

The quality & flavors are there – bold and with character. The bar team was very welcoming and friendly, and they have done an amazing job on the restaurant interior. Really good mole, which is almost impossible to get in CLT, tacos and empanadas. Hot sauce was served with a verbal warning, and I understood why right away, so don’t be a hero. Amazing restaurant but it still feels like they have to make some necessary changes. Walk-ins are immediately directed to outside tables, a few feet from traffic and an inch from a hundred flies. Not a nice place for dinner for now. Still a bit disorganized, but it is to be expected for a new restaurant. Nevertheless, their dishes are solid and staff is very friendly. We’ll be visiting again soon for sure.

Popped in for a quick bite during their soft opening yesterday and could not be happier. We basically wanted an appetizer and a cocktail but somehow small tastings of various things kept appearing in front of us. The guacamole was the best I’ve ever had. Hands down. The queso was outstanding and the chicharrons? I need more! Drinks were perfection and I want to go back for a full meal now.

This place is so cute!! I went with some friends for a drink on a Friday night, and the vibe is awesome! We sat at the bar, and the staff there was great and very attentive. I didn’t have any food, but my friend did and he enjoyed it. I did have some drinks, and those were great too!

Puerta has a great atmosphere! And we enjoyed the music. We ordered shots of the house mezcal, the spicy margarita and the coin style. The appetizers are by far the star of the show! Also ordered 6 tacos. The tacos… however we’re $6 per, lackluster, left much to be desired and had no flavor whatsoever. Would not return because of this.

Loved this new spot! Food was so, so good and the atmosphere/decor really fun. Staff very eager to help and super accommodating. The salsa trio was fabulous as were the various tacos we all enjoyed. Queso was on point! The drink service was a bit slow (food arrived before the cocktails), but the drinks were very well done and worth the wait. Loved how the menu shows you what type of stemware (or not) the cocktails are served in! The only negative was the music (in house DJ) was a tad too loud. It was difficult to talk and should be lowered a bit during prime dinner hours. Perhaps crank up the volume a bit later in the evening. But if you are looking for a loungey vibe with great craft cocktails and an authentic and awesome menu, this is your new go-to!

Love the decoration and vibe! The food is over priced $6 for a palm size taco is too much. $5 for two spoon service of rice. $16 for a cocktail. $2 for salsa! While I appreciate good cuisine it is not worth the cost on my end. I’ma taco whisperer and it just didn’t do the job for me.
