Rolled by looking for some authentic, southern cooking, and goodness gracious, we were not disappointed! The food was delectable, the service was friendly, and Big Hopp himself came out to check on us and make sure everything was good, before the religious experience I had with the EXCEPTIONAL banana pudding. Highly recommend you check this place out.

I’ve eaten here twice both times were take out. The 1st time I order the smothered pork chops and I wasn’t impressed. The flavor was good but the pork chops weren’t tender at all. But I decided to try my luck and order again. This time I order 2 dinners one was fried chicken with greens and mac and cheese. And the 2nd dinner was fried catfish w/sweet potato casserole and pinto beans. The catfish was perfect, hot and fresh, seasoned well, and nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fried chicken and pinto beans were also very good. The collard greens and mac and cheese left a lot to be desired very disappointing. They both lacked flavor and the collards are huge they seem to be served as whole leafs and full of stems. They don’t have to be chopped into pieces but cutting them some would been nice. The corn bread and sweet potato casserole was just ok. Be aware I think the sweet potato casserole has pecans or some sort of nuts in it. The portions for the to to go sides are small but the prices aren’t bad so you get what you pay for. I’d go again for some more of the catfish

I’ve eaten at a lot of places but this has to be one of my favorite. The greens, the catfish, and the fried mushrooms are beautifully cooked down to the cornbread! highly recommend a stop in Shively for your favorite home-cooked meal.. big hopp’s doesn’t disappoint.

This place is absolutely amazing. We live in Middletown and attended a visitation in the area so we googled places to eat nearby. What a gem we found!! We had fried chicken, jerk chicken, country fried steak. All delicious. Sides of greens, green beans, Mac n cheese, sweet potato casserole. Fried green tomatoes we so good!! We love supporting our local businesses. The staff was so friendly and the boss came out and thanked us for dining! If you want down home cooking and down home people this is the place to go.

I Order my food on my way to Big Hopps to go in to eat with about 35 before they closed. Are waitress had are table ready for us before we got there,she knew exactly what I wanted to drink food came out hot and it was very delicious.
