I was driving home from a job and looked on Google for a good place to eat and it recommended the Alto bar. It’s an old small town hole in the wall bar but nicely renovated. I drove a bit out of the way for the steak which was recommended. Sadly, steak is only reservation only after 5 on Friday. The mushroom Swiss burger I ordered instead was not bad, but unseasoned. The onion rings were okay also. The bartender/server was nice, but running her poor legs off.

Not what I expected. The prices are outrageous for the food you get. The steak tasted ok, but wouldn’t pay what they charge for one again. The “mashed potatoes” were basically a potato cut in fours, smashed a couple times and then put on the plate. All the food except the cheese curds were bland. The cheese curds would be the only thing I’d eat again from there. The table was very wobbly and seemed like it was going to fall apart under us. The staff is very friendly and helpful which was the plus side of this dining experience.

This restaurant/bar is a must see just for it’s history. The Alto Bar opened in 1900 so raise a beer to history! It is actually one of the oldest bars in Michigan!

Awesome little place in Alto. Clean, amazing food, and very friendly staff. We came in late one of the many times we have been there after the kitchen had closed, and they were so accommodating as to turn the fryer back on just for us. Would highly recommend checking them out!
