It was graduation weekend in Iowa City. They sat us quickly and the service was great. We had egg rolls and pork gyoza for appetizers and both were tasty! The sauce that came with the egg rolls was a much-upraded version of sweet/sour sauce, plus it was spicy and was VERY GOOD. The gyoza was delicious. When it came to the sushi, we got 2 rolls with shrimp tempora in them. They were fine, but not great. The 3rd sushi roll we got was a dragon roll with yellowtail and tuna… again, good but not great. We got chicken and yakisoba noodles for the kids and it was AWESOME. It was a very large portion and the flavors really popped. I’d try this place again to see if other sushi rolls are better. And to have more apps!

Its okay. Great location for college students, but I think the food’s a little overpriced for the portions and quality, even with their weekday discounts. We also watched as our sushi platter sat on the serving counter for about 10 minutes before it got to our table 🙁 . Food tasted alright. Overall I might try again if there’s really nothing else in the area that I feel like eating. Hope they improve their service and offerings, especially when there are other restaurants in the area that offer more for less!

First, our server Anthony was a true professional. As a former waitress, I watch all the details, and he was spot on. But let’s talk about the food. I had the salmon poke-LOVED it: slivered mango, avocado and top notch salmon. My husband had the lunch special, and it had a good variety of nigiri. He asked them to customize the roll, and they did not hesitate. Came out exactly like he likes. My one request would be to get higher quality chopsticks.

I brought my brother here for his birthday and his 1st time having sushi. What a great choice! Our server, Rocio, ensured we had the best experience. The sushi was very reasonably priced and great quality. The menu is extensive and even picky eaters will be able to find something here. Definitely worth the drive.

Sooo disappointed after looking at the photos online. Not sure if they buy the photos but if not they should seriously be a photographer, not a restaurant owner. I ordered the Edamame, Dragon Roll & Chicken Hibachi (because they don’t even have Chicken Fried Rice). I also ordered Hot Tea but the waiter never brought it! There was only 1 other table for a short portion of the time we were there but our waiter asked me to wait TWICE when I started to talk, simply wanted to know if the crab in a roll was real or imitation. It was imitation of course but I’m not sure any of the crab on their menu is real. Which to me is an indicator of lower quality ingredients across the board. As you can see in the pictures the Dragon Roll was not prepared w/ Avocado inside per the menu. Which of course made it dry but the Shrimp Tempura that was inside was also 90% breading. If it wasn’t for the Eel & Avocado on top it would have been inedible. The Chicken was really dry and the Edamame tasted old. With numerous significantly better (quality & service wise) sushi restaurants within blocks there is literally NO reason to ever come here.

Sumo Sushi Grill and Bar Has amazing food and drinks. They had margaritas for $4 as well as many lunch specials the afternoon we stopped. I would highly recommend going there to anyone who’s in the mood for Asian food, you will not be disappointed. Great vibe.

A 3% service unexplained “service” charge added to everything. That should be a crime. I will reduce my tip by twice as much as any post pandemic service charge. You are hurting your staff and customer base. I won’t return to any place that blatantly rips me off or try’s to extort a tip before services have been rendered.

The place was really nice and clean, serving was really good, and food were fantastic. The rolls were really delicious; it looked simple but it was really surprisingly tasty. The ramen was really good too, the soup base was rich, and if we didn’t eat a lot of food before the ramen, which we ordered just to try it out, we would’ve finished it.
