Another fun find while in Spartanburg doing errands on a Saturday. My sister and I decided that we should eat before the drive home so we wouldn’t have dinner so late, and trusted the great reviews for A Taste of the Caribbean since nothing in the area was familiar. It’s appearance in a little strip mall was deceptive about the treasure inside. Our experience was to be treated like family and our waiter even spent time sharing fun family stories as he explained carefully the best way to enjoy the absolutely delicious empanadas and accompanying home made sauces. Wow! Can’t wait to go back for more of those. The loaded Caribbean potatoes were unique and delicious and it was enough to take home for another meal. The staff was so courteous and wanting everything to be the best it could be. The food was definitely made with love which always makes it taste better.

La Comida mas sabroso en spartanburg. The owner treated us like family and told us about his time living in Colombia and also made some amazing suggestions for food. My wife and I ate at A Taste of the Caribbean this week. The staff was friendly and the food was great. We decided to go all out and split the Chef Special with salmon, lobster tail and shrimp. We decided on the coconut rice as well. The dish was very flavorful and the coconut rice really added to the experience. We also tried the empanadas, which we liked as well. Nice “hole in the wall” place over by the East Side Walmart. If you want something different and delicious, give this place a try.

Honest opinion, I was disappointed with the food. I had the Chef special salmon, lobster tail, and shrimp with coconut rice. To me nothing about it was carribean… I anticipated lots and flavor and overall a different taste.. what I got was a plate of food covered in a cheese sauce. The salmon was dry and the lobster tail was salty and chewy. Without the cheese sauce the food was bland. My fiancé had the loaded potato with flounder and shrimp and was also covered in a cheese sauce. Flounder was not crispy(outside of it) because of the cheese sauce. I did like the Philly and cheese empanada with white sauce. For the amount of money I paid it was not worth it to me.

If you are looking for something different in the Spartanburg area, this is the place to go. The empanadas are next level, all the sauces complement the flavors of the empanadas in there own way I would highly recommend the shrimp empanadas with the white sauce. Also the fried fish is delicious. Give it a try and open your mind to new delicious flavors.
